Welcome to Native Place, a unique eco friendly guesthouse overlooking the

serene Vadivali Lake. Built as a place for adventure and relaxation and inspired by the
sustainable, ecology conscious homesteads of village India, Native Place invites you to
indulge in nature's glory, relive happy childhood memories and heal your spirit.
Native Place is an antithesis to the resort culture. No room service, meals at specific times
and there are rules to follow but the atmosphere is friendly, the ambience warm and you
can be ‘yourself’.
Come slow down –become aware of your surroundings and appreciate all that nature
and Native Place has to offer.

Our Location
Nestled in a remote valley in the Sahayadri Range, flanked by
rolling hills all around and overlooking the serene Vadivali
Lake. We are an hour’s drive from Pune, 3 hours from Mumbai,
40 minutes from the busy hill station of Lonavala and are
easily accessible via the expressway and rail.

Ÿ At Native Place we have 7 differently sized Guest Rooms with
attached baths. 4 Bunk Zones (dorm acco) as well as Tents.
Ÿ All rooms are representative of old world style having high ceilings
large window & ventilator openings, fans and attached baths.
Simple understated country style and minimalism characterize
these spaces.
Ÿ 4 rooms in all the bunk zone stands out because of beautifully
crafted pine wood bunk beds and antique Morvi floor tiles.
Ÿ Tents are fitted with mattresses, sheets pillows and mosquito
meshing and are set up in a shaded area in the garden.

or burji for non vegetarians. Bread, butter, Jam and tea
are available every day
Lunch - 1 pm to 2 pm Lunch consists of dal, rice, roti, 2
veggies, chicken curry, a salad, pickles.
Dinner - 8.30 pm to 10 pm: On the weekends the dinner
begins with soup. Rice, gravy veg dish, dry veggie dish,
salad, pickles etc.
BBQ - Is available on Saturday night and may be done
on request for a group. Please place your orders in the
morning. BBQ charges are separate and not included
in the package.
ENVIRONMENT & SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
At Native Place we take our responsibility to the
environment very seriously.Our inspiration comes from
the home gardens of peninsular India that are based on
sustainable concepts. We compost our garbage,
recycle waste water, use solar power for heating,
energy saving bulbs, and buy most of our ingredients
locally. In the garden we rely on organic practices and
native plantings to conserve water and other resources.
Our work, contributes to the prosperity of the area by
creating opportunities for local people, and a deeper
appreciation for their culture and history for all who visit
us.
Architecture - The house was built keeping the
weather and geography in mind - Old world
style airy rooms with high ceilings and many
window and ventilator openings keep rooms
additionally cool in summer. The Central
courtyard and many large openings funnel
fresh air into the house at all times. China
Mosaic roofs are delightful to look at also serve
to reflect the suns heat and keep the ceiling
from heating up. Trees all around, help to keep the
atmosphere pleasant. The building and the
landscaping blend into the surrounding hillside
Water - Water is pumped up from the lake which is in
turn replenished by rain water. We use micro filtration
and reverse osmosis to produce all our potable water.
Waste water is treated on site using reed bed
technology and is used to irrigate a part of the garden.
In the garden we are mindful to choose species that
need less water and use other methods to reduce water
consumption. Please help us conserve water.
Electricity - the area has frequent power cuts that
peaks in summer. We have a backup generator that runs
on gas that powers up our batteries. Fans and basic
lights run on this system. We use energy efficient bulbs
to reduce electricity use. Solar panels on the roof are
used to heat water. Our rooms are airy with high ceilings
and many window and ventilator openings to keep
rooms additionally cool in summer. We hope to go
completely off the grid some day.
Food supplies - We support the local economy by
purchasing most of our ingredients from the
local market and directly from the farmers. We
have a policy of using fresh local produce. Not
only does this enhance the quality of the food
we serve but also reduces the food
milestravelled to reach the plate and thus the
level of carbon emissions generated. The rice
we serve is a variety grown especially by
farmers in this region and the pickles are home
made. Some of the ingredients come from our
own garden.
ECO-Friendly Native Place Garden - In the garden we
have a preference for indigenous plantings that attract
birds &butterflies and other wild life to the garden as
well because their needs in terms of water and fertilizer
are limited. This ensures that we use fewer resources.
We follow permaculture principles and traditional
organic farming methods shunning all chemical
fertilizers and pesticides.
MISC DETAILS
First Aid - The Native Place Guesthouse stocks a first
aid kit.
Mosquitoes - Kindly close your doors and windows in
the evening to avoid mosquitoes entering. Ask in the
kitchen to smoke your room in case of mosquitoes.
Hot water for bathing - We use solar panels to heat the
water. In the monsoons and winter one has to let the
water run a bit before the hot water starts to flow.
Drinking water - We use micro filtration and reverse
osmosis to produce all our potable water. This has
helped us reduce our carbon footprint by cutting down
on trashing hundreds of plastic water bottles. Please
refill your water bottles from the water pots in the
central courtyard
Departure - Kindly vacate your room no later than 10
am. Late checkout is possible but charged extra.
Ambiance - Guests are encouraged to feel at ease and
make use of the common spaces in the house and
garden. Please don't play music in public areas.
Climbing Terrace - We have two rooms below the
climbing terrace - Kindly keep the volume down should
you choose to use this area beyond 10 pm
Power cuts - We have battery backup as well as a
generator so in the event of a power cut we are not
affected!
Pe t s - P e t s a r e a c c e p t e d o n p r i o r w r i t t e n
communication in certain rooms and are not welcome
in common areas to respect the comfort of other
guests.
Phone Connectivity - There are no telephones in the
rooms and mobile phones work only in the upper
reaches of the house. Go to the terrace, the car park for
signal. Please avoid using your phone in the common
areas to keep the peace for other guests.
Swimming in the lake - The Vadivali Lake is a man
made water body created by the Irrigation
Department. It is very deep. Guests are cautioned
against swimming in the lake.
Conserve electricity - Water and electricity are scarce
resources and we request u to help us save these by
switching off lights and fans and not littering.
The Adventure Store - Nirvana Adventures runs a little
outlet selling hiking boots, bandanas, sun hats, tee
shirts and other gear. It is open in the evenings during
the paragliding season when the crew is around.
