Should death penalty be abolished?

Death penalty , is the fate of every person who has committed a

serious crime , such as rape or murder , and it is practiced using
various methods , for instance , by hanging or electrocution .
Although , many countries in the world have abolished the
“capital punishment” , others still use it , like China or the U.S .
A research made by CNN says that , according to the Criminal
Justice Project of the NAACP , 2673 people were on a death
row in the U.S as of the 1st of April , 2019 , which represents a
large amount of human lives , there is no humanitarian way to
take a life of a person , so , death penalty should be abolished .

Actually , no one can deny that a person or any creature is never

capable of bringing back the dead to life again , the capital
punishment is irreversible , yet , a shocking number of innocent
individuals have been sentenced to die wrongfully , hastiness
and bad judgment could lead to people paying for crimes they
did not even commit , stating the example of Cameron Todd
Willingham , who was sentenced to die in Texas in 2004 for
“burning” his three little girls , yet , further evidence showed
that he was not the one who set the fire in the first place
(WWW.AMNESTY.ORG) . In other words , his life was over
literally by absolute judgments .
The blood of the innocent is on the hands of the government ,
and he is indeed considered as a victim .
In addition , a recent CNN study showed that 20% of the people
who are sentenced to die , are mentally ill , and even a more
large number of these people are in jail , when they should be
treated in hospitals and psychiatric institutions . it is absolutely
unethical to execute people with mental illness due to their
condition ; they seem to lack understanding of the crime that
they have committed and the consequences of this action . It is
not their fault , it is actually their families’ fault for not putting
them under treatment from the beginning . A person should be
sane to be determined whether he is guilty or not .
Furthermore , death penalty doesn’t actually put a stop to
criminal actions as successfully as a prison term , in fact ,
statistics shows the exact opposite . According to Canada News
provided by https://www150.statcan.gc.ca , after abolishing the
capital punishment in 1976 , Canada’s murder rate has dropped
by a large number , and as of 2016 , it was its lowest since 1966.
Those criminals do not care about the consequences of their
actions , so basically , they are doing the crime anyway , no
matter how hard the punishment will be . Besides , serving a
life-time in prison is more logical than taking a life of someone .
If we killed every criminal who committed a serious crime , the
prisons would be nearly empty .

In closing , If we sentenced every person who has committed a

serious crime to death , then it would be just like the law of the
jungle , “survival of the strongest” , “kill or be killed” . In other
words , death penalty is not the right method to punish
criminals , there are several ways to do so , such as hard labor or
serving a life-time in prison .
