Finite and Infinite Sequence

Semi – Detailed Lesson Plan
Grade 10 - Diamond
July 1, 2019

Content Standard (1st Quarter)

Demonstrates understanding of the key concepts of sequences, polynomials and
polynomial equations.

Performance Standard (1st Quarter)

Is able to formulate and solve problems involving sequences, polynomials and
polynomial equations in different disciplines through appropriate and accurate representations.

Learning Competencies (1st Quarter)

 Differentiates a finite geometric sequence from an infinite geometric sequence.
(M10AL-Id-3)

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a) Illustrate finite and infinite geometric sequence;
b) Differentiate a finite geometric sequence and infinite geometric sequence; and
c) State whether a given sequence is finite geometric or infinite geometric
sequence.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Finite and Infinite Geometric Sequence
Reference: Mathematics Grade 10 Learner’s Material First Edition, 2015 page 30-37
Time Frame: 60 minutes
Materials: PowerPoint presentation, Laptop and chalk

III. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities
 Prayer
“Lord, we are gathered once again in your presence to start a new day. Bless our
teachers and fellow students as we go on with our studies. Give us strength and
knowledge o’Lord that we may learn well. Guide us throughout the day. This we
ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.
 Greetings
 Checking of Attendance
 Setting of Standards

B. Lesson Proper
 Pre-developmental Activity
1. Review
2. Drill
3. Motivation

 Developmental Activity
1. Presentation (Lecture/Discussion)
A Finite Geometric sequence is a function whose domain is the finite set
{1, 2, 3, …, n} while Infinite Geometric Sequence is a function whose domain
is the infinite set {1, 2, 3, …}.
Example: What is the sum of the first 10 terms of the infinite sequence
2+2+2+…?
Solution: 2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2=10(2)=20
What is r=-1 and n is even?
2. Unlocking of Difficulties
What is r=-1 and n is even?

 Post-developmental Activity
1. Practice and Drill
I. Identify if the following sequences of numbers are finite or infinite
geometric sequence.
____ 1. 2, 4, 6, 8, 10
____ 2. 5, 15, 45, 135, . . .n

____ 5. 3, 6, 9, 12, 15

2. Generalization
A Finite Geometric sequence is a function whose domain is the finite set
{1, 2, 3, …, n} while Infinite Geometric Sequence is a function whose domain is
the infinite set {1, 2, 3, …}.

II. Evaluation
I. State whether each of the following sequence is geometric or not then state if it is
finite of Infinite geometric sequence.
1. 5, 20, 80, 320, . . .n
2. 7 √ 2 ,5 √ 2 ,3 √ 2 , √ 2
3. 5, -10, 20, -40
4. 1, 0.6, 0.36, 0.216, …n
