My Philosophy of Education

As a child and even as an adult, I enjoyed learning new things every day. More than learning, I

enjoy teaching these things to people. It gives me a satisfaction that fills my heart. Teaching

someone how to do something or how to understand something makes me very happy. I chose to

pursue a degree in education because I want to teach children for the rest of my life, the

paycheck is just a bonus in my opinion. What inspired me most to become an educator was the

few teachers that I still think about to this day. I had a handful of teachers that were very

passionate about teaching and changed my life and maybe didn’t realize that they did. Teaching

is the best career for me because I love working with children. Children are our future and

although it sounds like I’ll have a lot on my shoulders, I hope to make the difference in

children’s lives.

One of my favorite projects I had in one of my education courses was one that helped me figure

out what my psychological orientation was. I had already made up my mind in thinking my

philosophic orientation was behaviorism. I enjoyed using philosophic inventory in this course

because it proved me wrong. My strongest philosophy is Progressivism and my weakest

philosophy is behaviorism. Curriculum should emerge from students’ needs and interests;

therefore, it should not be prescribed in advance. This statement in specific stood out to me,

because I believe that every child is different, and every child absorbs information differently. I

believe that this philosophy will help my future students, because it’ll remind me to step back
and remember that every child is different and lesson plans may change from time to time. My

knowledge of historical education and events and laws will set the stage as a reminder that things

often change regarding laws and policies. Educational events from the past help me appreciate

education and students that much more. I feel like we have made progress in education.

As an educator, I will teach my students that our classroom is a safe place and they can freely

communicate any worries thoughts or emotions with me. I will also teach my students that

respect is the number one and golden rule in the classroom. I will also understand as an educator

that all children are different and not every child learns the same way and every child is unique

in their own way. I will try my hardest to make all my students feel welcome and comfortable to

speak up in a respectful manner. I will also teach my students that we are all human beings

whose heart beats the same regardless of gender or race.

In order for me to move forward in education, there are several steps that I still need to take. I

need to complete hours of student observation. I need to complete a student teaching experience.

I need to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. I also need to apply for a

Nevada Elementary License, get the Nevada Elementary license, apply for the position, get the

position. Once I accept the position offered, I need to complete new teacher training, and

onboarding. My plan to achieve all these goals are to stay on track with my college educations

and work hard towards complete all my requirements.
