VMware vSphere 4.

1: Install, Configure, Manage

HP course hh633s

Lab 1 - Configuring VMware ESXi

In this lab, you will connect to an ESXi host with the vSphere Client
and view host hardware configuration. You will then view virtual
machine configuration, configure DNS and routing information for an
ESXi host and configure the ESXi host as an NTP client

Information required to complete the lab

Your instructor will provide you with the following information;

• The name of the kit you will be using, each VMware class has it's
own kit name, e.g. Calcium (Should the phrase "kit" appear on
these pages please replace "kit" with the value give by your
instructor).
• The IP subnet of the kit. (Should the phrase "subnet" appear on
these pages please replace "subnet" with the value give by your
instructor).
• The server number you should use. (Should the phrase "server"
appear on these pages please replace "server" with the value
give by your instructor).

PLEASE NOTE - Unless you are working with a partner on your ESX
Server you can ignore instructions like 'To be done by Student B'.

Note regarding task 1, step 1 - This lab should be carried out from
the desktop of your vCenter Server, a link for this is on the main lab
landing page.

Lab 2 - Installing VMware vCenter Server

In this lab, you will access your vCenter Server

system then configure a SQL Server ODBC
connection to a remote database. You will then install
vCenter Server and open the vSphere Client.

Please note;

• If you are the only student using an ESXi host

then please ignore the reference to
StudentA and StudentB

• You will be logging in for this lab as a

'vmadmin' user and not Administrator. Also,
you will be connecting to a remote database
and will be configuring an ODBC connection.

• Installation of vCenter will be by using the

ISO mounted into drive E: of your vCenter
desktop.

• Task 3 Step 4, this step asks you to select the

SYSTEM account for the vCenter services. As
we are using an ODBC connection with
Windows Authentication we will not have the
option. Instead we should supply the password
VMware99.

• Task 4 - The vSphere client has already been

installed (for your use in Lab 1) hence steps 1
to 6 of this task need not be done, however
please do the task from step 7 onwards.

Lab 3 - Using VMware vCenter Server

In this lab, you will create container objects and add

your ESXi host to the vCenter Server inventory. You
will then create folder objects and also manage
vSphere license keys.

Lab 4 - Standard Virtual Switches

In this lab, you will view the current standard virtual

switch configuration then create a standard virtual
switch. You will then verify that your virtual machine
has proper access to the Production network.

Please note; Task 3, before Step 6 you need to set

a proxy server before you can prove Internet
connection.

• In Internet Explorer select 'Tools', 'Internet

Options' and the 'Connections' tab.
• Click the 'LAN Settings' button.
• Tick 'Use a proxy ...' and type in
'proxy.hp.local' as the address and '8080' as
the port. Tick the 'Bypass proxy ...' box and
click 'Advanced.

• Type '192.168.*;*.hp.local' in the 'Do not

use ...' box.

• Click OK, OK, and OK again.

If you cannot access the VMware website please use

http:\\vcsvr04.hp.local.

Lab 6 - Accessing IP Storage

In this lab, you will create a VMkernel port on a

standard virtual switch. You will also configure the
iSCSI software adapter and view iSCSI storage
information. You will then configure access to an NFS
datastore and view the contents

Lab 8 - Working with Virtual Machines

In this lab you will create a virtual machine, install a

guest operating system in a virtual machine. then
create a virtual machine on an iSCSI VMFS datastore.
You will then import a virtual machine into the
vCenter Server inventory and identify a virtual
machine’s disk format and usage statistics. You will
then install VMware Tools into a virtual machine
installed with a Windows operating system, enable
time synchronization between a virtual machine and
an ESXi host and copy class lab files to your virtual
machine.

Please note;

• The disk size for the VM you create has to be

2GB and Thin provisioned.

• The ISO image is named 'w2k3unattend.iso'.

Lab 9 - Using Templates and Clones

In this lab, you will configure guest operating system

customization on a vCenter Server system then
create a template and deploy a virtual machine from
a template. You will then clone a virtual machine that
is powered on.

Please note; Please login to your vCenter server as

HP\vmadmin04 who is the administrator, don't login
as Administrator.
