IDEO and the Culture of Helping

After going through the article on ‘IDEO’s Culture of Helping’, I have observed that almost
everyone at IDEO help each other in their work, which not only makes the work easier, but
also improves the bonding between its employees. I also found that people are willing to
take help from each other without hesitation, and mostly take help from those, whom they
trust and are approachable. This is one of the characteristics of IDEO’s success. Due to such
a culture, inexperienced people at IDEO, are willing to take help from the experienced ones,
and the helpers, don’t consider helping others as a burden, rather they enjoy helping. If
employees are working in a project for a client, they take help from those, who have already
dealt with the same client, which proves detrimental in their project.

One company, in which I had worked as an intern during my summer break is Research
Shala. It is a small startup, which helps in research activities of various researchers. I noticed
that almost everyone in the company, work by themselves, without taking help from each
other, if they were stuck on a problem, they would try to solve it by themselves, without
considering the need for help. I think that if they adopt the characteristic of helping each
other, without hesitation, the organization would be very successful in its venture. Creativity
can only bloom if there is an influx of ideas within an environment, and for that to happen,
it is very necessary, that people take help from one another.
