Siempre fui muy curiosa con lo que me rodeaba, lo que me llevó a interesarme en las

ciencias en general. Al momento de elegir universidad e irme de mi ciudad natal, opté sin
dudar por las Ciencias Antropológicas. Hoy puedo decir que fue la decisión correcta, al
encontrarme estudiando algo que me apasiona, a gusto en la ciudad donde vivo y con la gente
que he conocido. En especial, estoy orgullosa con las distintas oportunidades que se me han
presentado, como estar realizando una pasantía con una etnógrafa, e incursionar en el trabajo
de voluntariado, el cual considero fundamental para el desarrollo tanto personal como
profesional.
Nunca fui una persona que le esquivara a los retos. La etapa universitaria me puso a
prueba de una manera totalmente nueva, dándome la oportunidad de ser ayudante en una
materia introductoria. Aún más, me permitió adentrarme en una institución de prestigio
científico, el Museo de La Plata, en el cual participe de un curso formativo de guía. Esto me
permitió interiorizarme en la enseñanza y la divulgación con grupos diversos, aprendiendo a
escuchar y trabajar en equipo. Creo que el interés en la enseñanza pude haberlo heredado de
mi padre y mi abuela, ambos profesores secundarios.
Desde pequeña logre un conocimiento del inglés a través de series, música y
películas; así mismo, algunas materias universitarias nos presentan papers en inglés, como es
habitual en el ámbito científico. Sólo hace poco materialicé formalmente mi conocimiento del
idioma al rendir el First Certificate Examination. Con el deseo de seguir mejorando,
considero que una estadía en un país de habla inglesa me permitiría lograr profundizar mi
conocimiento de un idioma que no es el mío. En mi opinión, una lengua es vivida, no sólo
hablada. Algunos cursos tienden a ser muy estructurados y no muestran el verdadero espíritu
y personalidad del inglés. En lo personal, y desde los conocimientos que me ha brindado la
antropología, pienso a las distintas lenguas como formas de habitar el mundo. Eso las
convierte en difíciles de enseñar o aprender en toda su complejidad dentro de un aula; y, solo
a través del entrenamiento práctico en las charlas del día a día y aprendiendo los modismos
propios de cada sociedad, es que se puede comenzar a entender realmente a los hablantes de
una lengua en particular.
Al terminar mi carrera de grado me visualizo dentro del ámbito científico-académico,
realizando algún tipo de actividad de investigación en un país extranjero, siempre con una
proyección futura aplicable en mi país, Argentina. Un intercambio de estadía reducida puede
ponerme a prueba a mí misma, dándome la seguridad y el entrenamiento necesarios para
materializar esa proyección cuando llegue el momento.
Considero que un intercambio, como el propuesto en el programa ‘Friends of
Fulbright’, puede ayudarme a conocer otras maneras hacer, comprender y vivir el mundo,
mejorar mi inglés y relacionarme con gente diversa. Agradezco la oportunidad de poder
aplicar y participar en este programa.

I have always been very curious about my surroundings. This interest led me to
wonder about science in general. When I had to chose a career and left my hometown, I opted
without hesitating for the anthropological sciences. Today I can say it was the right choice.
As I found myself studying something that I am passionate about, I am at ease in the city I
live and with the people I have met. Especially, I am glad of the different opportunities that
have been presented to me, such as been doing an internship with a ethnographer, and to enter
in volunteer work, which I consider fundamental for both personal and professional
development.
I was never a person who avoided challenges. College challenged me in a totally new
way, and gave me the chance to be assistant in an introductory subject. Furthermore, it
allowed me to enter in a prestigious institution, the Museum of La Plata, where I took part in
a formative guide course. This allowed me to internalize in teaching and spreading
knowledge with different groups, learning to listen and work in a team. I consider that the
interest in teaching may be inherited from my father and my grandmother, both high school
teachers.
Since I was a child, I got my first tools of English through series, music and movies.
Besides, as it is usual in the scientific field, a lot of courses give us papers in that language.
Just recently I formalized my knowledge of it by passing the First Certificate Examination.
However I would like to keep on improving it. I consider that living for some time in an
English speaking country would grant me a deeper knowledge and master of a language
which is not mine. In my opinion, a language is to be lived not only spoken. Courses tend to
be very structured and don’t show the real spirit and personality of English. Personally, and
from the understanding I acquired through anthropology, I conceive the different languages
as different ways of inhabiting the world. It makes them difficult to learn or teach in all its
complexity within the walls of a classroom. Only through practical training in everyday
conversation and learning idiomatic expressions of each society, it becomes possible to start
to really understand the speakers of a particular language.
When I finish my career I figure myself in the scientific-academic field, making some
type of research activity in a foreign country, always with the idea of a future application in
my country, Argentina. A short exchange program staying can test myself, and make my gain
the security and necessary training to realize that projection when the moment arrives.
I consider that an exchange as it is proposed in the programme ‘Friends of Fulbright’
may be useful to get to know different ways of do, understand and live the world, improve
my english and to deal with different people. I would appreciate the opportunity to apply and
participate in this programme.
