GENERATOR DRIVE - ADJUSTMENT/TEST
1. Generator Constant Speed Drive Adjustment
A. Governor adjustment is accomplished as necessary to provide
generator output frequency of 400 (±4) cps.
NOTE : If filter or magnetic plug show indication of failure or
contamination, or if frequency is unstable or erratic,
or if frequency goes out of limits and stays out upon
application or removal of loads, replace CSD rather than
adjust governor. If filter, magnetic plug, or CSD is
contaminated, also replace oil cooler and associated
tubing.

B. Adjust Constant Speed Drive (Fig. 501)

(1) Check that filter and magnetic plug show no indication of
contamination or failure.
(2) Check that frequency is stable during application or
removal of load.
(3) Start engine and run for 3 minutes to allow system to
reach operating temperature.
(4) Disconnect load controller from CSD by disconnecting
electrical connector.
(5) Adjust governor.
(a) Remove adjustment cap to gain access to adjustment
screw.
(b) Insert screwdriver in adjustment screw slot, press
inward and turn screwdriver until adjustment screw
engages governor adjustment screw.
NOTE : When adjustment screw is engaged with the
driving governor adjustment screw, it will be
possible to feel a stop spring ratcheting
agains a gear on the governor adjustment
screw.

(6) Turn adjustment screw clockwise to raise frequency,

counterclockwise to lower frequency. One full turn equals
approximately 14 cps.
(7) Adjust as necessary to bring frequency to 400 (+4) cps.
(8) Replace adjustment cap and O-ring over adjustment screw,
securing with two screws and washers. Torque screws to 20
to 22 pound-inches.
(9) Connect load controller and check frequency on third
crewman's panel.
(10) If oil has been lost from CSD during adjustment, service
CSD (Ref 12-13-11 ).

2. Generator Constant Speed Drive Test
A. Following are two disconnect tests; only one need be performed.
If engines are running, dynamic test the disconnect. If engines
are not running, static test the disconnect.
(1) Dynamic disconnect test.
(a) Start engine and run at idle speed (Ref 71-00 ,
MP).
(b) Set BATTERY switch on P4 upper panel to ON.
(c) Turn ac meters selector switch to GEN 1, GEN 2, or
GEN 3 as applicable.
(d) Check that voltage is indicated on ac voltmeter.
(e) Remove lockwire and raise guard on DISCONNECT
switch on P4 panel and actuate switch.
CAUTION : DO NOT ACTUATE DISCONNECT BELOW MINIMUM
ENGINE IDLE SPEED. DAMAGE MAY OCCUR AS A
RESULT OF INCOMPLETE DISCONNECT.
CAUTION : DO NOT ACTUATE THE DISCONNECT SWITCH FOR
PERIODS LONGER THAN 3 SECONDS. ALLOW A
MINIMUM OF 60 SECONDS BETWEEN ACTUATION
PERIODS. CSD MAY BE DAMAGED.

(f) Check that voltage falls to zero and AC GENERATOR

DRIVE LOW PRESS light on P4 panel comes on.
(g) Shut down engine and wait until N1 and N2 rotors
stop rotating (Ref 71-00 ).
CAUTION : DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RESET DISCONNECT WITH
ENGINE ROTATING.

(h) Slowly pull disconnect handle on underside of CSD.

A click will be felt as the reset handle is pulled.
(i) Motor engine (Ref 71-00 ) at approximately 20% N2
rotor speed and check that reset has connected CSD
to engine by checking the following:

Revision

1) Check GEN DRIVE OIL TEMP gage. Temperature

should rise slightly.
2) Check AC GENERATOR DRIVE LOW PRESS light. Light
should go off.
(j) Restore system to normal.
1) Shut down engine (Ref 71-00 ).
2) Close and lockwire DISCONNECT switch guard on
P4 panel.
3) Set BATTERY switch on P4 panel to OFF.
(2) Static disconnect test.
(a) Remove lockwire and raise guard on DISCONNECT
switch on P4 upper panel and actuate switch.
(b) Slowly pull disconnect reset handle on CSD to
outward limit of travel, noting the amount of hand
force required. A click will be felt as the
disconnect reset handle is pulled. Operation of the
handle should be smooth, require moderate force, and
should not bind.
(c) Allow handle to return slowly to the maximum inward
position.
(d) Slowly pull handle to outward limit of travel,
noting the amount of hand force required. The force
will be less than that required to pull handle first
time. There will be no click as the handle is
pulled.
(e) Close and lockwire DISCONNECT switch guard on P4
panel.
