Procedure:
A.S “Who can name some things that fly and things that don’t fly?”
Ask the students who can name things that fly, can be objects or animals.

2. Once students get a grasp of what it is to fly, introduce Greece by
explaining where it is in relation to us
a. Can use map to help visualize this
3. Tell the students that we will be playing a popular children’s game is
Greece named “Petai”
a. Explain that “petai” means “it flies” in Greek, allow students to
repeat it a few times.
4. Once students grasp the word “petai”, explain how the game works
5. Using our voices, we are all going to chant the word “petai” 8 times,
but each time we will use our voices to make each word sound
squeakier and squeakier or “higher and higher”
a. We will also mimic our voices by raising our bodies each time
we say “petai”
b. After “petai” is chanted 8 times, at the end call out an animal or
object. If it flies, then the students must remain standing and
flap their wings. If it does not fly, then the students must crouch
down low quickly.
6. Repeat this a few times with things that fly or don’t fly, students can
volunteer
7. Review
Closure:
“What did ‘petai’ mean again?” “what language was it?” “Where do they
play this game?” “how many times did we say the word ‘petai during our
chant?”
Educational Objective: By the end of this lesson, students will have learned . . .
A little bit about Greece and where it is and what language is spoken
there by playing the game. Musically, they will use the pitch of their voices
and practice increasing it.
