To keep this file user‐friendly, the template user should follow the established format.
o Use Styles for all Headings, Captions, Table of Contents, List of Figures and List of Tables.
o Use “Section Breaks” where needed for different footers and other format changes that
require a different page set‐up.
o Use the Style “Appx‐H9” for Appendix headings (for Appendix items to be included in the
Table of Contents with correct Appendix page numbers).
o When inserting Tables or Figures, highlight the Table or Figure and (under References),
select “Insert Caption” for the title to be used in the List of Tables and List of Figures.

1 Introduction
DO‐178C: The Plan for Software Aspects of Certification (PSAC) is the primary means used by the
certification authority for determining whether an applicant is proposing a software life cycle that is
commensurate with the rigor required for the level of software being developed. (Source: RTCA DO‐

If you are developing a product or software that will be used without change on multiple aircraft and/or

This document is provided to summarize the plans for <Company> to develop the <product> software in
compliance with RTCA/DO‐178C Software Levels <A, B, C and D> for the <OEM> <Aircraft or Engine
Type>. This document includes the content required by DO‐178C Section 11.1. See Error! Reference

This is the initial development of the <product>.
This is a major change to the previously certified <product>. The changes are summarized in Section
3.8.
1.1 Scope
Describe the scope of the PSAC. Choose one of the examples below, or modify to fit your project:
The scope of this PSAC is the development of the software for the <product>. There is no Real Time
Operating System, or other previously developed components, integrated into this product. Therefore
the scope of the PSAC includes all software in the <product>.
The scope of this PSAC is the development of the <component> software. This component will be
integrated into products as part of other certification projects. See the integrator’s PSAC for details of
the integration process. APPENDIX A indicates the DO‐178C objectives that will be the responsibility of
the integrator.
The scope of this PSAC is the development of the <component> software application and the integration
of the <application> with the <RTOS name> <operating system>. See the <RTOS name> PSAC for details
of the <RTOS name> compliance with DO‐178C. The scope of this PSAC includes satisfying the objectives
of DO‐178C that are indicated in the <RTOS name> PSAC as integrator responsibility.
