CEB:

Stands for central electricity Board. CEB was established in year 1952 in Mauritius but electrifies
Mauritius completely in 1982. There are different scheme that CEB is working on and one stands for
integrating around 4 MW of new small scale distributed generation (SSDG) using solar photovoltaic
technology in national grid. The CEB Green energy scheme will operate under the principle of net billing
discount. This project will enable around 2000csmall commercial enterprises to participate in and
benefit from it.

1. Water pipes
The water pipes are the simple devices that keep the motors cool. It is a method of heat
removal from industrial equipment. Water is an ideal cooling medium as they keep the vessels
at a low temperature throughout the operation. The water is store in a tank which has pressure
cap, the tank has a spring loaded valve which opens above certain pressure. Then it enters the
engine for cooling. Then hot water comes out and goes outside the power house to the
radiation for cooling the water and returns back to the tank.

2. Wartsila engine
It is a V16 engine has 2 bank, A bank and B bank so each contain 8 cylinder. It contain two turbo,
one turbo for each bank.

3. Turbo
The turbo charger is a turbo machine and consist of the following main component:
1 . Turbine
2 . Compressor
These are both mounted on a common shraft.
The exhaust gas of the engine flow through the gas in net to the turbine wheel, the turbine
wheel use the energy containing the exhaust gas to drive the compressor wheel. The
compressor draws in fresh air and passes through the cooler and thus the compressed air is
force into the cylinder, the exhaust gas escape through the exhaust pipe which is connected to
the gas outlet casing.

4. Exhaust pipe
The exhaust pipe can be seen without a metallic casing, the casing was removed for inspection
in order to check in for any leakage of exhaust gas during the engine is working.

5. Man engine
This is another type of engine that is use to produce electricity. This engine has eight cylinder in
line and has one turbo
6. This is call a cylinder head. It has 4 valves, two valve for exhaust gas passage and the other two
are for the intake for air pressure from turbo to enter the cylinder. It also consist of injection
valve that inject heavy oil fuel in the cylinder.

In the control room, there is a system called SCADA that control all the engine and motors, with
the SCADA System, a defect was detected, in which it was seen a cylinder was having high
temperature rather than the normal one, it was found that there was a hole in one of the valve
thus it was analyse that a hole decreased the compression of the cylinder thus making the
temperature of the cylinder to increase. After changing the valve the problem was solve.
