Student book

Ex. 1 p. 76
1. Honestly I cannot say that I am a huge fan of technology, as an ordinary student I
just like to keep up with development of modern technologies and to know the latest news
from the IT companies. Mostly I'm interested in computer technologies and the developing
of them and also the phone technologies, if there are any new models, what new features
they have, what kind of phone is the best to use etc.
2. I think technology is a force for good in the world, because with developing
modern technology we get more opportunities to explore our capabilities, abilities of
different machines etc. Also developing modern technologies will help solve huge variety
of problems, starting from space exploring and up to medical inventions. It also helps
students in distance learning. I guess they help different companies that are located in
different parts of the world to keep in touch and overall exploring new possibilities of
technologies help us to increase human potential.
Ex. 2 p. 76

a) Take off – suddenly start being successful.

b) Breakout – newly famous and successful.
c) Pushed the boat out – spent a lot of money celebrating something.
d) Take – opinion.
e) To the fore – very noticeable.

Ex. 3 p. 76
I think experts are going to talk about various different smart technologies, like
smart watch, driverless cars or even driverless aircrafts.
Ex. 4 p. 76
All things are mentioned except interactive television and brain imaging.
Smart watch – one speaker wonders if Apple’s watch will break out.
Smart thermostat can control heating from afar.
Driverless cars – there are more experiment are going on.
Drones – these have been promoted before a Christmas rush for Amazon. They will
fill the skies and raise concerns about privacy and surveillance.
Genetic data – defines you and is being stored and makes you vulnerable to hackers.

Ex. 6 p. 76
I guess even though the program is from 2014 there are many devices that still
taking off. Like Apple smart watches, they are still a huge thing nowadays among
teenagers and youth. Smart thermostat is not that useful anymore because we already can
control heating and everything using our phone so I guess we kinda got further with this
technology. We are still talking about driverless cars, there are some experiments going on
too and I guess we didn't get much further from 2014. Drones are not that big thing and
no, they're not delivering any goods to our houses and they are not invading our privacy,
so this prediction kind of didn't work. We don't quite use genetic data today.

A water carrier that purifies water. They think it is worth investing in and has
potential.
Ex. 7C p. 77
One of the biggest benefits is…;
It’ll go on the market for two pounds/a hundred pounds/ten euros;
Can we see any drawbacks? ;
I can’t really see any negatives;
It seems like a great investment;
It’s a start – up;
My initial reaction is…;
It has a lot of potential.

Home 3D printing
3D printing is becoming a new way for manufacturing. Creating a part with 3D
printing is much cheaper, makes less waste, faster and the result is even more accurate.
The possibilities of 3D printing are extremely captivating, making this one of the most
exciting innovations in recent times. 3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing,
makes three-dimensional solid objects from a digital model or command.
3D printing is a very valuable technology because it can nearly solve the problem of
product’s transportation. The real example is that even now it is possible to download data
of some things, parts, or products, modify them with special software, and print them with
a desktop 3D printer. Such technology is very valuable and beneficial, as it can help save
time and money. With 3D printers, it will be unnecessary to build large plants to produce
some products, which would otherwise pollute the environment and deplete natural
resources. This environmentally friendly technology will be much better than the current
one, as it requires less raw material, energy, and cost. 3D printing can also be used in
many industries, as it opens new perspectives of creating highly-detailed things. The
technology is already used in jewelry, architecture, engineering,  footwear, aerospace,
education, industrial design, automotive, geographic information systems, civil
engineering, and many others fields.
Nevertheless, the biggest perspective of 3D printing technology is the possibility to
change the landscape of manufacturing and provide customers with a new, significantly
higher level of customization.
