Introduction
CenturyPly has been the front-runner in applying innovation at work. This simple philosophy

the foresightedness of two visionaries, Mr. Sajjan Bhajanka and Mr. Sanjay Agarwal. It holds
the position of being the first ISO 9002 company for veneer and plywood India and also the
largest seller of multi-use plywood and decorative veneers. In 1997, CenturyPly became the
first company to introduce Borer-Proof Plywood in India. Spread into a 6.6 acre area, its ISO
9002 plant is located at Bishnupur, near Joka, Kolkata. It exports its range of products to
over 20 countries.

Mr Sajjan can be said to follow Strategic leadership style :- As per Mr Sajjan, new generation
entering the business is a natural process. They undergo training under all departments.
Commenting on the employees welcoming the new generation, Sajjan says, “Most of the
executives in our company have been there for past 20-25 years. They have seen our
children growing up. A bond is there, our kids respect them. They have been instrumental in
training our children.”
Other leaders respect their employees and follow the leadership style where employees are
given freedom to showcase their talent. Apart from professional relationship they maintain
close relationship with their employees also.

Wellbeing Programmes
They have no specific wellbeing programmes but to motivate their employees and promote
motivation they place emphasis on the following:-

 Frugality – They are putting emphasis on being economical with money and food.
 Integrity – Its promoting the feeling of honest work and strong moral principles to
promote a feeling of self-belongingness towards the organization.
 Excellence – Rewarding employees with excellent performance and appreciating
their contribution in the organization.
 Teamwork – Teamwork is carried out to promote common interests over one
individual’s interest. People are taught to work in team to achieve common
organizational objectives by dividing work, right task for right person.
 Empowerment – Authority or power are given to people who perform good to teach
them leadership qualities.
 Accountability – People are accountable for their work, so that everyone takes active
participation in their work.
 Change friendly – People are made to work in the dynamic environment so that they
adapt to change and bring right changes at the right time, and can cope up with it in
their future period.
 Caring – A caring atmosphere is created to promote feeling of care and love by
company towards its employees.
 Sharing – Resources and work are shared to achieve effectiveness and efficiency.

Suggestions for wellbeing of employees

 Extracurricular activities like sport events, get-together can be held to give


employees some leisure time for their relieving themselves from stress and
workload and promoting healthy lifestyle as in today’s work physical workout
gets neglected due to high working hours.
 Good medical facilities available at workplace so that absenteeism is brought
down and people can consult doctors at free or low costs for their health, so
that they get a feeling that the organization is working towards their
development and providing them protection.
 Regular appraisals and recognition certificates to those performing well so
that they work harder and increase the business of the firm. These regular
appraisals and recognition certificates also motivate employees to have a
feeling of self-belongingness towards the organization.
 Regular training programs for employee development in various fields can be
initiated for development of employees in technical fields.
 Counselling sessions can be held for employees on various issues relating to
them and feedbacks for the same can be taken.
 Suggestions and feedback from employees must be taken on regular basis so
that things are taken care of in a systematic and efficient way. Right problems
are studied and actions taken to correct it are not delayed.
