Music Lesson Plan

Title: Shoo Fly! Grade Level: Kinder

Materials needed:​ print out of ‘Shoo Fly” lyrics

Procedure:
Anticipatory Set Instructional Input (Modeling Check for Understanding Practice) Closure

A.S: Has anyone ever seen a fly before? How would you describe it? How do you
react when you see one?

1. Using the rote process, teach students the lyrics to the song ‘Shoo Fly!’
Teacher - Sing first Students- Repeat after teacher
2. Have students practice song all together
“Shoo fly, don't bother me,
Shoo fly, don't bother me,
Shoo fly, don't bother me, for I belong to somebody!

I feel, I feel, I feel like a morning star (3 times)”

3. Inform students that they will be moving around the classroom as they sing
along to the song
4. When they are standing for each of the first 3 parts of the song they will be
stepping in together then stepping out to form the circle again
5. They will repeat this until they get to ​“I feel, I feel, I feel like a morning
star (3 times)” during this section the two students to the teachers left will
raise their arms to form a bridge
6. The teacher will pass under the bridge and the rest of the students will
follow while still holding hands
7. Once everyone has gone under the bridge the students will continue to walk
in a circle together facing their backs to the center of the circle
8. Now when they hear the first section of the song they will again come back
into the middle of the circle stepping in and out backwards
9. Once the song begins in the second section, the two students to the right of
the teacher will form a bridge for everyone to pass under
10. After everyone has passed under the bridge they will continue to walk
together holding hands in a circle
11.Now when students step in and out of the circle they will finsih facing each
other

Closure: What animal was our song talking about? What are we telling this fly to
do? Who can tell me how many times we passed under the bridge?

Educational Objective: ​ ​By the end of this lesson, students will have learned . . . how to
successfully memorize and sing a song while playing in a game setting that incorporates different
movements.
