2020 Journal EDU 218

Here are journal entry instructions:

In all reflective writing, it is useful to revisit our experiences and to express our thoughts and conclusions
about these experiences in order to use that knowledge in future events. Use your daily log materials to
write each reflection log. Once you’ve written a draft, ask yourself the following questions:
o Am I writing about me? Is it personal?
o Have I used “I” and “me” throughout? (Do not use YOU.)
o Do I explore my feelings?
o Do I provide my insights into the events and experiences?
o DOES MY WRITING GO BEYOND MERE DESCRIPTIONS?
o Do I say what worked, what didn’t work and why?
o Do I say how it could/would be different next time?
o Have I identified my learning?

Journal #4:What are your thoughts regarding these 2 lines from the article? On that
very day, she quit teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic. Instead, she began to teach
children.

As a teacher, the purpose is to educate others that involves teaching to the students not
just teach the material. Students need the opportunity to learn which the teacher must
accomplish in the most effective way possible. Teachers are sometimes robotic and non
approachable which makes it harder to connect. Teachers and students must establish
a relationship which is beneficial for both parties.

Journal #3: Did your opinion on “teacher’s pets” change after reading the article? Why
or why not?

I do not think that my opinion on teacher’s pets has changed. Teacher’s pets receive the
most attention and support normally because they need it. Someone has the choice to
be independent from the teacher for a variety of reasons but that is their choice.
Teachers should still strive to connect to all students and not just the one’s the need or
want it. Teacher’s pets are always going to appear but it is how you approach them.
Journal #2

What are your thoughts on “teacher’s pets” from both the student and the teacher
perspective (as best you can)
As a student you were always aware of who the teachers pets are and where
they were. Just because you are classmates and overtime you get familiar with them.
Sometimes people are the teacher's pet but they don't try to be. From the other
perspective and helping out with teaching you can see which students are trying to be
the teacher’s pet. I do not think that the teacher’s pet is particularly bad but at times it
can be distracting to the lesson at hand.

Journal #1 1/22/20

Based on last semester's experience, what do you want to learn or do this semester?

This semester I am really looking forward to getting more in class experience with
teaching. I will have more time in the day and more days to be with my class. In class
wise, I think I would like to learn more of how to handle the preparations of a teacher and
what to do in more scenarios. I know we should hope for the best yet prepare for the
worst. I think we should do more activities as the entire class. Maybe something with
some competition behind it.
