EXPLANATIONS
This standard has been elaborated from AK 421.0.1 "Wires and ropes for overhead lines" in K421 "overhead lines" of the German
electro technical commission in DIN and VDE (DKE).
When revising the former issue the following modification have been made:
1 . The tolerance from wire diameter have been confined according to technical level.
3 . Tensile strength are converted into N/mm² and stated as rounded values
4 . According to the rounded values for wire cross section slight modification for the data concerning D.C resistance covering and
weight
were established.
5 . The mechanical and physical properties are in conformance with the stated data in IEC publication 207 (1966) " Aluminum
stranded
conductors".
Routine gauging practicability for wire drawers and supervisors having micrometers with 1/100 mm measuring accuracy is relevant
for this regulation.
This standard has been compiled based on the draft specification " Aluminum conductors , steel – reinforced " of the " international
Electro technical commission " (IEC) .

Explanation
This standard was elaborated by the working circle AK 421.0.1 ( overhead wires and stranded conductors "in K 421 "overhead lines " of the German electro-technical
commissions, in DIN and VDE (DKE)
The working circle 421 .0.1 decided to revise the standard DIN 48200 part 3 " wires for stranded conductors , steel wires " and to adapt it the latest level of technology .
Strength data
All the strength data have been converted into N/mm 2 and are rounded off.
Wire diameter
a) diameter ranges
here , diameter groups are introduced instead of single wire diameters . to adapt the diameter to other wire standards , thus a clear classification
b) admissible deviations
in adapting to the level of technology , tolerance of foreign production have been equalized , even fall below and suffice for the production faultless
عقيل ظاهر موسى: اعداد و تدقيق وطباعة
overhead lines , according to the working circle s view
retention of steel IV is considered to be necessary as for steel III and IV an upper limit " stranding " is introduced .
zinc covering
weight per unit area correspond to standard DIN 1548 (dizn – solid) the large diameter range requires a separate table . deviating from DIN 1584, retentions of dip
numbers are considered to be necessary , ensuring a zinc distribution with sufficient regularity.

This standard was elaborated by the working circle 421.0.1 "overhead lines conductor wires and stranded conductors " in
the committee 421 "overhead lines " of the German Electro technical Commission in DIN and VDE (DKE). According to the
law on units in the measuring system date 2 July 1969 and the regulation on implementation of 26 June 1970 the unit KN is
used for calculated breaking strength in this standard.
Furthermore , a few editorial alterations were made. Practically, this standard is equal to the stipulations of IEC publication

In 1959 a working group set up by technical committee TC 7 “Aluminium”of the IEC and consisting representatives of the United
states, Canada, Great Britain, France, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland and Germany started to prepare supply proposals for bar standard
aluminum conductors, steel reinforced standard, aluminum conductors, standard E-AlMgSi conductors and steel reinforced standard
E-AlMgSi conductors; these proposals were intended as directions. The work of preparing these directions was based on the standards
of the participating countries and on 7 farther specifications prepared by other countries. The first stage of the work consisted of
drawing up provisions regarding the properties of the materials used for the standard conductors.
On successful completion of these activities, the results presented by TC 7 of the IEC at the Aix-les-bains meeting on 27.5.1964 were
adopted and published as follows:
Conducturs en Aluminium-acier
These publications contain physical and technological data for materials (wires) to be used, plus all necessary data for satisfactory
conductor constriction as well as the identification number resulting there from and the test methods procedures necessary for
determining the values concerned.
In the contrast with this, DIN standard consist of separate parts covering the materials to be used, and the individual wires and
standard conductors, and these are supplemented by standardized condition of delivery the stranded conductor's constrictions
indicated in the IEC publications serve only for guidance. Although the dimensions of the wires used in the various stranded
conductors are not specified, nevertheless tolerances are specified for the diameter ranges of the wires. To make it possible under
given cross section ratios for closely lied-up conductors to be supplied, it has been necessary to dispense with round values for the
individual wire.
Newly included are values for the calculated breaking load according to DIN 48202 part 1, 1966 issue, section 3.4 and the thermal
limiting values for continuous loading capacities at 0.6 m/s wind speed and solar irradiation giving an initial ambient temperature of
35°C and a final conductor temperature of 80°C. The IEC publication contains no data on these points.
Figures for continuous loading capacity have not been given for steel reinforced Aluminum conductors with cross section ratios of
1.4 : 1 and 1.7 : 1 witch are used solely as earth wires on overhead lines.
As a departure for IEC publication 209 the density of aluminum is 2.7 kg/dm³, whereas the IEC gives 2.703 kg/dm³.
In response to requests by users and manufacturers, the standard has had added to it a table giving the percentage aluminum
component for various cross section ratios.
It appears justifiable to include these particulars in the standard so that a standard basis is available for calculating the cost of the
conductor.
