COLTS-MULTITEX

Technical Data:

1 No of Colts 4
2 No of Condenser Tubes 14250
3 Tube Dia (OD) 22 mm
4 Length of tubes 8600 mm
5 Tube material SS:SA 249 TP 304
6 CW Flow rate (normal/max) 8750/10500 m3/hr
7 Max DP for Screen 0.15 mWC
8 Back Wash DP 0.30 mWC
9 Emergency Back Wash DP 0.50 mWC
10 Sponge Balls - Type 22 – SL - 1

Operation:

Switch ‘ON’ Panel Supply. Put ‘ON’ in Auto or Man mode.

Manual mode: Keep Screen in Operation mode. Keep Collector in collection mode. Start
the ball recirculation pump. Put collector in operation mode.

Automatic mode: Screen goes to operation mode. Collector goes to collection mode.
Pump gets started. Collector goes to operation mode. Operation goes on for 30 minutes.
Then collection mode proceeds for 30 minutes with ball counting. This goes on till manual
interruption.

When DP across the screen goes beyond 30 mbar, normal backwash sequence is started.
Balls are collected for 30 minutes. Pump is stopped. Screen goes to back wash mode for 3
minutes duration. Afterwards normal operation is resumed.

When the DP crosses 50 mbar, emergency backwash sequence starts. Balls are collected ,
pump is stopped and screen opens for back wash. After this manual system start is required.

Whenever ‘auto’ to ‘man’ change over is done, balls are collected, pump is stopped and
screen remains in operation mode.

If after backwash, DP happens to be more than 30 mbar, back wash fail indication will
appear for manual intervention.

BHEL PROCEDURE FOR COLTS PG TEST

Test covers:

1. DP across screen @ 100% condenser tube clean conditions

2. Life of spongy balls

3. No of balls lost during 1000 hrs of system operation

Differential pressure:

Flow rate and DP are recorded in log sheet A

DP design = (Q design /Q test condn ) 2 x DP test condn

DP should be less than 0.15 mWC

Life:

For a 4 week trial, if the unhealthy ball count is less than 10 % of the initial charge, ball life
is deemed as 4 weeks. Initial charge is 400 balls of 22 mm dia and type SL-1. Sieve of 20.57
mm used to sort out unhealthy balls. Twice a week record unhealthy, recovered and newly
charged balls in log sheet B

Life A = C x 100 / B

C = no of healthy balls recovered after 4 weeks

B = initial charge till 4 weeks of operation

Life A should be greater than 90 %

Lost balls, after 1000 hrs of operation:

A = C x 100 / B

C = recovered at end of 1000 hrs

B = charged during 1000 hrs of operation

Replaced worn out balls are not counted as lost

A should be greater than 90 %

Notes:

Condenser flow is obtained from the CW pump power calculation

Life test for 4 weeks is declared over if trial breaks after 15 days. Otherwise life test is
repeated

Condenser tubes should be in clean condition and Cond P within +/-

10 %
