Materials
Book: Prentice Hall BIOLOGY (Miller & Levine 2008)

*Pen/Mechanical Pencil *Colored Pencils and Highlighter *Calculator *Paper

It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to bring all materials to class. Teacher cannot supply them for
you.

Assignments
All assignments (unless otherwise stated) will be due the following class period. NO LATE
ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Projects and any other assignment noted by teacher
will be deducted 10% each day late, up to 50% off.

Quizzes
There will be a quiz every FRIDAY (missing Thursday does not excuse you from a quiz)

Absences
It is crucial that you do not miss any classes, because there may be a lab/activity/demonstration
that requires materials that may not be easily duplicated or made up. You are to present an
ADMIT SLIP to your teacher if you are absent. If you have to go get one, you MAY be counted
TARDY. Unexcused absences cannot be made up. Missing class will decrease your chances of
success due to the amount of material that may be covered. Absences (excused or unexcused) do
not excuse you from taking a test. Makeup tests and quizzes may be all essay and may not be the
same as the original test. No bonus questions will be on makeup quizzes and tests.

Bonus Options
Besides various points handed out throughout the semester, you may earn in the following ways:
*Bring in a box of Kleenex and receive 15 points toward ONE TEST
*Bring in 250 cans crushed flat, double bagged, and permanently labeled
(50 points toward homework)
*NO ABSENCES will earn you 15 QUIZ bonus points PER QUARTER. (void w/3 tardies)
*You will be given one hall pass per Quarter to leave the classroom. NOT using this pass
will earn you 50 bonus points PER QUARTER. (VOID WITH THREE TARDIES)
*Doing articles early and typing them
If you choose not to participate in either of the first two above, you may do a research paper in their
place. (Guidelines for this paper can be obtained from your teacher)
IF YOU DISRUPT CLASS FOR OTHERS, YOU MAY LOSE ALL BONUS OPTIONS ABOVE.

Grading
Either Total Points or Weighted, students will be given the best calculated grade.
Weighted: TEST 40% HOMEWORK 40% QUIZ 20%

Missed Work
If you have an excused absence, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to get any missed
work/handouts/notes. All assignments will be posted and available in file folders on cabinet.
Classroom Expectations
So that everyone has the best opportunity to succeed in this class, I expect the following from
everyone.
1. BE IN SEAT before the tardy bell rings. Three tardies=detention.
2. No talking while teacher or another student is addressing the class.
3. Respect others, school property, and the LEARNING ENVIRONMENT.
4. Cell phones and portable music may be taken if it interferes with learning. (do not use them)
5. Cheating may result in zero or point deduction.
6. All other school policies apply i.e. dress code, hats, I.D’s , profanity, etc….

Consequences for not following classroom expectations

1. Verbal warning/conference with student. If student is warned more than once in a class
period, this may result in an automatic detention and a phone call home.
2. Repeated offenses will result in a phone call home and/or teleparent and possibly detention.
3. If necessary a referral will be written for further action by the principal.

Teacher Responsibilities
It is my responsibility to create an environment suitable for learning and to challenge you to
succeed. I have high expectations for you and will expect you to do your best.
I will be available on Monday after school for tutoring. Do not hesitate to come in for help.

I WANT EVERYONE TO SUCCEED IN THIS CLASSROOM, BUT IN THIS CLASS, AS

WELL AS IN LIFE, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO LEARN.

You are to read over this with your parent/guardian and have them sign saying they have read it.
The signature sheet is attached and will be 20 homework bonus points for bringing it back
signed by the end of the week.

IF YOU TRY YOUR BEST AND DO ALL YOUR ASSIGNED WORK, IT IS

NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO FAIL THIS CLASS!

You are today what yesterday’s choices have made

you.

LEARNING IS EXERCISE FOR THE BRAIN!!

STUDENTS THAT “MAKE THE GRADE” WORK HARD AND
MAKE SACRAFICES.

The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary.

Absences, sleeping, tardies, goofing, and not turning in

work are
BEHAVIORS OF STUDENTS THAT FAIL
