The 5th Sunday of Easter, Communion Sunday

May 10, 2020

Prelude: “Still, My Soul, Be Still” Grace Ramley

Welcome & Lighting of the Christ Candle – Pastor Beth Hoyt

Opening Hymn: “God of Grace and God of Glory” with Grace Ramley accompanying

1. God of Grace and God of glory, on thy people pour thy power;
Crown thine ancient church’s story; bring its bud to glorious flower.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the facing of this hour, for the facing of this hour.

2. Lo! The hosts of evil round us scorn thy Christ, assail his ways!
From the fears that long have bound us free our hearts to faith and praise.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the living of these days, for the living of these days.

3. Cure thy children’s warring madness; bend our pride to thy control;
Shame our wanton, selfish gladness, rich in things and poor in soul.
Grant us wisdom, grand us courage, lest we miss thy kingdom’s goal, lest we miss thy kingdom’s goal.

Call to Worship – Chase Corry

Leader: God of grace and God of glory, we worship you today!
People: Alleluia! Thanks be to God!
Leader: You have told us that in your Father’s house there are many rooms.
People: We worship you from many rooms today, from the “Home Churches” we have each created.
Leader: We worship with a sense of connection, that even though we are not physically together our prayers
and praises are rising to Heaven together. The church’s story goes forward even now. We worship God
together!
People: Receive our worship today, Lord Jesus. Hear every voice from every home, and help us to sense
our connection in you, because we miss each other and yet we know that we are still your Church!

Opening Prayer: Chase Corry

Almighty God, in Christ you have shown us the way, revealed to us your truth, and offered to us everlasting
life. Keep our eyes upon Jesus, that we may see your path more clearly, know your truth more fully, and
receive your life more abundantly; through Christ who dwells with you and the Holy Spirit in eternal glory.
Amen.

Children’s Sermon: Chase Corry

Prayer of Confession: Pastor Beth Hoyt

Please listen to the poem, “We’ve All Been Exposed” by Sarah Bourns. Listen for a phrase that particularly
speaks to you and then use it as a prompt for your own personal prayers during our time of silence. You
may want pen and paper handy to jot down several phrases that speak to you.

Silence for your personal prayers.

The Passing of the Peace

Pastor: The peace of Christ be with you.
People: And also with you.

Pastoral Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer

Unison
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is
in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us
not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
forever. Amen.

Hymn: “Savior, Like A Shepherd Lead Us” with Grace Ramley accompanying

1. Savior, like a shepherd lead us; much we need your tender care.
In your pleasant pastures feed us; for our use your fold prepare.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, you have bought us: we are yours.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, you have bought us: we are yours.

2. You have promised to receive us, poor and sinful though we be;
You have mercy to relieve us, grace to cleanse, and power to free.
Blesses Jesus, blessed Jesus, early let us turn to you.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, early let us turn to you.

3. Early let us seek your favor; early let us do your will.

Blessed Lord and only Savior, with your love our spirits fill.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, you have loved us; love us still.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, you have loved us; love us still.

The Doxology with Grace Ramley accompanying

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise God all creatures here below; praise God above, ye heavenly
host; Creator, Savior, Holy Ghost. Amen.

Benediction: Pastor Beth Hoyt

In Unison
Go out into the world in peace. Have courage. Hold onto the things that are good. Return no one evil for
evil but give strength to those who are fainthearted, helping those who are afflicted, giving honor to all of
God’s creation. Go and serve the Lord rejoicing in the power and the presence of the Holy Spirit. Go in
peace.

Changing of the Light: Pastor Beth Hoyt

Closing Hymn: “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” Reawaken Hymns Lyric Video

(Did you know??? In this hymn you are going to sing about an “Ebenezer.” An “Ebenezer” is a stone of help.
In the Old Testament when the Israelites experienced God’s help in a special way they would set up a large
stone or a pile of stones to mark that moment and help them remember it in the future whenever they saw the
stone. How is God helping you right now? What will you want to remember about God’s care for you during
this season of pandemic, home church and sheltering in place?)
