Gina McCarthy says that “At its core, the issue of a
clean environment is a matter of public health.” Everyone today has heard of how important it is to recycle and most cities offer a recycling program, but what exactly is recycling and how beneficial is it really to the people in Biliran.Recyling can get pretty complex- how it interacts with our environment, our politics and even our human behavior will play a major role in the future of our beloved Province of Biliran. According to Saahithi “if no one in the world ever recycled, there is the risk that our homes and habitats could be destroyed, we may not have anymore everyday resources and people could die of toxic gasses”. Definitely the most important reason to recycle everyday resources will soon disappear, not only do our resources rely on recycling but our economy does to. Landfills are one of the most traditional ways of disposing garbage, because they release methane and carbon dioxide as the rubbish decomposes which greatly contributes to greenhouse gasses and reduces the ozone layer which protects the earth from the suns harmful ultraviolet rays. Landfills also take up space that could be used for housing with our growing population. If we don’t recycle most of our rubbish will end up in landfills and enhance these problems. The word discipline in handling our garbage must be observe. It will comes first from the people of Biliran. The local and provincial government should take measures and implement procedures and programs regarding Proper Waste and Garbage Disposal not just everyday garbage collection and dumping in choosen dumpsites. As a resident or as an admirer of this beautiful Province, I implore all local and provincial political leaders to make refush/trash collection and recycling your number one priority. The people in Biliran should should focus on their creative energies in a comprehensive and regular community weekly trash pick up that will require an investment in numerous trash bins and refuse trucks development of landfills and recycling centers. We all know that there are consequences our province would face if we don’t recycle. The first consequences from not recycling would pollution. There are many different kinds of pollution. For example, the Styrofoam which carries water or coffee pollutes the ground by leaking nasty chemicals into the soil. The air also gets polluted each time you drive your car and also plastic particles from water bottles and chemicals pollute our water. Second is the overflow of landfills. Landfills are designed to deal with waster. However, if we threw everything away when it could be recycled. The landfill would fill up and would be unable to cope with this large load. It would also create unpleasant smells and end up being toxic from all the harmful chemicals which is arise from the Styrofoam, batteries, microwaves, cleaning supplies and other household supplies. Ladies and gentlemen. Biliran is truly a hidden gem and worth the effort of everyone to show off it’s beauty to the rest of the world. That’s all THANK YOU!
