• Give the scope of your familiarisation checklist as per SMS? He lead me to Handing over
Procedure there on.(Change of Officer checklists) Handing over lead me to Ballast water
Management when i mentioned about handing over the ballast status.
• Describe the whole BWM (wanted last ballast tank inspection report and sediment condition
apart from the usual answer). Recording procedures.
• How would you go abt inspecting Ballast tank? Enclosed space entry Procedures etc. Risk
Assessment Matrix and so forth.
• Now what would you look for in ballast tank? Structural /Coating /Sediments/Strum
Boxes/Pipes/Doubler plates /Web Frames /Lightining holes etc – which lead on to become an
Hull survey!
• Hull survey/In water survey/Dry dock – leads me to LOADLINE SURVEY (which i was waiting for)
• Loadline Survey (Full Account) Had to define : Wx tight / wtr tight/ Loadlines/Guardrail
hieght?/Freeing port area?/Hull doors/Underdeck Passage/Hull Piercings – (Seemed Happy so
broke the chain finally)

lift precautions/ Reefer/OOG/He asked me everything under the sun on container cargo work,
till he ran dry and i got fed up of leading him to new topics.
