Singing Game Lesson Plan

Title: Long Legged Sailor Grade Level: K

Source: Song Packet by Dr. McConkey

Materials needed:

Procedure:

A.S: Has anyone met a sailor before? Does anyone know what they do?

1. Introduce the song “Long Legged Sailor” and demonstrate the hand movements that go
with it.
2. For the word “long legged”, stretch your arms wide and have students mimic the
movement. For “short legged”, bring your hands close together. For “one legged”, raise
one arm up. For the rest of the words, clap along to the beat.
3. Have students sing the first part of the song (as seen above) with the movements in their
normal voices.
4. For the next verse, switch the word “long legged” to “short legged”. Have students sing it
in a high pitched voice.
5. For the last verse, switch the word “short legged” to “one legged”. Have students sing it
in a low pitched voice.

Closure: Now we know what some sailors look like. They can be long or short. They can even
have one leg!

Educational Objective: By the end of this lesson, students will have learned . . .

A singing game that introduced high and low pitched while also demonstrating coordinating
hand movements.
