Apley’s Test Actively attempting to touch the opposite superior and inferior aspect of the scapula

places stress on the tendons of the rotator cuff thereby provoking any rotator cuff
complaints.
O’Briens Test This test is used as a shoulder examination to determine scapular instability or tears
in subscapularis tendon.

Apprehension This procedure also tests the integrity of the inferior glenohumeral ligament, anterior

Test capsule, rotator cuff tendons and glenoid labrum.

This maneuver is designed to stress the biceps tendon in the bicipital groove.

Speed’s Test

Yergason’s Test By resisting supination of the forearm and external rotation of the shoulder stress is
placed on the bicipital tendon and transverse humeral ligament.

Lift Off Test The dorsum of the hand is raised off the back by maintaining or increasing internal
rotation of the humerus and extension at the shoulder.

Coddman’s Drop The supraspinatus muscle acts as an abductor of the arm, therefore if its

Arm compromised it can cause unsteadiness of the humerus in abduction causing it to

drop suddenly.

Jobe’s Empty This maneuver uses resistance to abduction forces to stress the supraspinatus muscle
Can Test and tendon

Hawkin’s This maneuver pushes the supraspinatus tendon against the anterior surface of the

Kennedy Test coracoacromial ligament and the coracoid process.

Neer’s Test This maneuver causes the greater tuberosity of the humerus to be jammed up against
the anterior inferior border of the acromio
