The Golden Compass Wind Cave Chaos Hobbitus Ille: The Latin
Hobbit

A Latin expression, meaning Order out of Chaos. A motto of the Thirty-third Degree, and
having the same allusion as lux e tenebrious (this Latin phrase belongs to the Latin
translation of the Gospel of John: “et lux in tenebris lucet et tenebrae eam non
conprehenderunt,” meaning “The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not
comprehend it”). The invention of this motto is to be attributed to the Supreme Council of the
Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite at Charleston, and it is rst met with in the Patent of
Count Alexandre Francois Auguste de Grasse, dated February 1, 1802. When De Grasse
afterward carried the rite over to France and established a Supreme Council there, he
changed the motto, and, according to Lenning in his Encyclopedia of Freemasonry 1822 or
1828, Ordo ab hoc, Order Out of This, was used by him and his Council in all their documents.

[…] If the sarcasm seems unjusti ed, here’s one of the top comments responding to Jones’s
report: “Will be the coldest day in hell when they steal this election. Its going to be civil war, plain
and simple if they try it.” Well, the truth is sometimes stranger than ction; at some point, the
architects of the New World Order are committed, as the Latin motto of the Masonic Thirty-third
Degree indicates, to bring “ordo ab chao” or “order out of chaos.” (3) […]
The Four Elements: What Do They Mean in Freemasonry? [Part 1] « Universal Freemasonry
says:

[…] As we examine the rst two elements, it becomes obvious that they represent di erent points
along a spectrum. What is the nature of that spectrum, what is the primary variable? The
spectrum seems to range from the most inert elements, which is also to say those most bound
by the force of gravity or inertia, and least susceptible to the force of energetic change and
motion, or perhaps freedom of motion. In astrology, these would correspond to the qualities of
being mutable or xed. Just as we view the elements as representing aspects of one’s self, they
are also seen to be parts or states of mind and experience which are more or less susceptible to
inertia and change, stillness and dynamism, and perhaps, Order and Chaos. […]
