SIMRAN SONI 150104061 ASSIGNMENT 4

Question-1

Block Diagram of Hydrological system

Subsurface water-

 Infiltration: - Due to the overland flow water sinks into the soil due to its permeability.
 Groundwater Recharge:-The process of refilling of the underground water resources.
 Groundwater Flow: - When the ground water resources fill surpass the water will flow.
 Subsurface flow: - The water flow in the subsurface due to infiltration.
Surface water-

 Overland flow:-The flow of water into the oceans and seas through rivers.
 Surface Runoff:-The flow water from the land surface into the rivers and other water bodies.
 Runoff to streams and ocean:-The flow of water from land to sea’s and ocean’s directly.

Atmospheric water-

 Precipitation:-The process in which all the evaporated water again reaches the earth surface.
 Evaporation:-The process in which all the water in the water bodies evaporates and form cloud.
 Interception:-The process through which the precipitated water directly again forms clouds without
reaching the surface.
 Transpiration: - The process through which plants release water in the atmosphere by evaporation.

HYDROLOGICAL SYSTEM MODEL & ITS CLASSIFICATION

Hydrological system model:-

Main objective of this model is to analyze and study the system operation and the output of the
system. It is the approximation of the actual system; its inputs and outputs are measurable hydrological
variables and its structure is a set of equations linking output and input

Their classifications based on type of prototype

 Physical models
 Abstract models

Their classification based on the randomness, spatial variation and time variation of the variables
Question-2
Question-3
:-

Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage (Godavari Delta System)

This is also called as Dowleswaram Project.

Main Purposes of this project are:-

 Providing water for irrigation purposes.

 Water supply for the neighboring districts.

Salient features:-

Question-4
(i)Units of water in the reservoir at the middle of August=Water stored at the beginning of the year

+Inflow to the reservoir till middle of August

- Outflow to the reservoir till middle of August

=60+ (3+5+4+3+4+10+30+15/2)

- (6+8+7+10+6+8+20+13/2)
= 55Units of water

(ii)Units of water in the reservoir at the end of year=Water stored at the beginning of the year

+ Inflow to the reservoir end of year

-Outflow to the reservoir end of year

=60+ (3+5+4+3+4+3+10+30+15+6+4+2+1)

- (6+8+7+10+6+8+20+13+4+5+7+8)

=45Units of water
