Topic: The Early Vedic Civilization Time: 40 min.

General objective: 1) List the various Vedic literature.

2) Discuss about political organization in the Early vedic period.

Specific objective: 1) Students will be able to list the various literature of Vedic age.

2) Students will be draw a flow chart of the administrative system


followed in the early Vedic period.

Content: 1) Meaning of Vedas and names of 4 vedas i.e. Rig Veda, Atharva Veda, Sama
Veda, and Yajur Veda.

2) Names of epics (Ramayana and Mahabharata).

3) Political system in the Early Vedic civilization.

Background knowledge: 1) Students should know about geographical location of Ganges
plains and northern western neighbouring countries of India.

Method:
Introduction: 1)Teacher will discuss the meaning of Vedas.

Topic Method

Teacher will refer the reading material given


in the textbook.
Meaning of Vedas and names of the
Teacher will ask students to list down the
same including our epics i.e. Ramayana
literature of Vedic civilization in rough book.
and Mahabharata.

Video followed by the discussion from the


reading material given in the textbook.
Political system in the Early Vedic
Civilization.
Teacher will draw the flow chart on board.

Wrap up:

Teacher will ask students to orally tell names of vedic literature. (Preferably in
the same order given in the book)

Teacher will ask the following questions to the students:

1) Who performs / guides for the religious ceremonies in the early Vedic period?
2) Name the two councils and what is the difference between them?
