LEARNING OBJECTIVES At the end of this lesson students should be able to:
● Students will be able to represent and solve problems
involving addition and subtraction.
● Students will understand and apply properties of
operations and the relationship between addition and
subtraction.
● Demonstrate addition and subtraction in math
equations.
● Apply addition and subtraction in story problems. They
will be able to work through the problems with little or
no frustration.
● Students will be able to differentiate between what
carry and borrow means in math equations.
● Students will feel confident of their ability to perform
tasks.

TECHNOLOGY USES ● Tablet

● Prodigy app (Math games that will help students
practicing addition and subtraction).

MATERIALS ● An overhead projector will be used to model problems.

● Work sheets with story problems to practice.

PROCEDURE ● Ask students what addition means and what

subtraction means.
● Give a couple of easy verbal math problems that
students are very familiar with.
● If you had 2 apples and I gave you 2 more, how many
would you have? If you had 6 apples and you ate 4,
how many apples would you have left?
● Solve word problems involving dollar bills, quarter,
dime, nickel and pennies.

ASSESSMENT
Students successfully will be able to do addition or subtraction
and mastering simple math problems. They will look at the
math sign and problems and they will be able to determine
the action that need to be taken.
