LA JOYA Hydroelectric Power Plant H9

Description: is a new hydropower project connected to the grid with 14.96 MW of installed capacity and will produce an average generation of 88.53
GWh. The project will be located in the department of Arequipa.

Current Status: Projects Benefits:

Earliest project start date: November 2006.
Operation start date: October 2009.
Project lifetime: 40 years.
Current Status: Environmental Impact Assessment approved. Energy
and Water concessions were given. Letter of DNA approval was obtai-
ned. Registered at the Executive Board.
Estimated Annual Emission Reductions (tCO2/year):
An average of 41,987 tCO2-equivalent per year.
Project Participant and Financing
Total project cost: US$ 17,556,552
Number of direct and indirect jobs generated:
The project would create 250 new jobs during construction and 20
during the operation of the hydropower plant.
Sustainable development contribution:
It improves the water quality for irrigation.
It will assist the education of children and young people of the project
site. It helps the commerce balance of hydrocarbons through the re-
duction of oil importation.
It enlarges agrarian land frontier in 3,000 Ha.

El PLATANAL Hydropower Plant H10

Description: El Platanal is a new hydroelectric project with 220 MW of installed capacity; producing an average generation of 1,063 GWh that con-
nects to the national grid. It is located in the provinces of Cañete and Yauyos, in the department of Lima.
Current Status:
Earliest project start date: January 2006.
Operation start date: February 2010.
Project lifetime: 40 years.
Current Status: Registered at the EB in September 2009.
In February 2010, the project obtained the Letter of Approval from
the Environmental Ministry of Spain (DNA) that confirms the project
compliance with the guidelines for dam building of WCD in accordance
with the validation report.
Estimated Annual Emission Reductions (tCO2/year):
An average of 501,814 tCO2-equivalents per year.

Total project cost: US$ 350,000,000
Sources of finance to be sought or already identified:
Equity: NA.
Debt: NA.
Projects Benefits:
Number of direct and indirect jobs generated: In the construction pe-
riod the project generated 1,200 jobs and in the operation period will
permanently generate 150 jobs between direct and indirect labor.
Sustainable development contribution: It increases the under-supplied
national power generation, allowing Peru’s industrial development. It
promotes and implements sustainable agricultural and aquacultural
projects and practices in the area. It also encourages and supports local
education as well as technical training opportunities. During the ope-
ration period it is estimated that the hydroelectric plant will inject an
estimated yearly amount of $US 2 million in social development, taxes
and canon to the Project’s area of influence.
