Tech Guide: PC LAN Setup

The following instructions will assist in configuring a PC LAN (local area network) Ethernet port to
connect to a Z series indicator. This document will provide instructions for XP and Windows 7
operating systems.
Note: These are basic instructions and are only provided as a guideline. Avery Weigh-Tronix
does not assume any risks associated with changes to your PC LAN configuration. Contact
your Information Systems Department for assistance in configuration if necessary.

XP Operating Systems
On an XP machine the network IP settings can be accessed from the bottom right corner of
your task bar. Right click on the icon shown below and select Open Network Connections.

Note: Another way to access Network IP settings is from the START button, select My Computer, then
My Network Places, and then View Network Connections.

Right click on “Local Area Connection” name and choose “Properties” from the shortcut menu.

Click on (highlight) “Internet Protocol

(TCP/IP)” and then select the
“Properties” button

Select “Use the following IP address”.

IMPORTANT: Make note of the current IP
settings. They may need to be restored to the
original settings for connection to other networks
The default IP address for the Z series indicator is
192.168.1.50. Enter 192.168.001 for the first 3
octets (network address) and a unique device
address for the last number. In this example we
use 192.168.001.100. Verify that the Subnet mask
is 255.255.255.0.
Select OK and then close all windows to exit the
Local Area Network setup.

Windows 7 Operating Systems

On a Windows 7 machine the network IP settings can be accessed from an icon on the bottom
right corner of your task bar. Right click on the one shown below and select Open Network
and Sharing Center.

Select “Change Adapter settings”

on top left of screen

Right click on the “Local Area

Connection” and select
“Properties” from the shortcut
menu

Highlight “Internet Protocol Version 4

(TCP/IPv4)”and then select “Properties”

Select “Use the following IP address”.
