COLEGIO AUGUSTO WALTE

SCIENCE PROJECT
Grade: 5TH A, B

Content: Types of investigation using the Scientific method.

Achievement indicator: Uses the steps of Scientific method to conduct a short

experiment. General instructions: After reading the explanation create a word
document showing pictures of the process, the answers to the questions and the
result from your experiment.

Experiment: Grapes and Sugar water density

Purpose: You are going to learn how to make water dense enough for grapes to
float in it. Supplies: grapes, sugar, water, tablespoon, and, plastic cups.

Answer the following questions:

1.Wha are the grapes going to do when the water is made heavier? Explain your
hypothesis.

2.What are the conclusions of the experiment?

Using the Scientific Method to Explore Water Density

with Grapes 1. Drop grapes in a cup of water. What

happens?

2. Add 2 or 3 tablespoons of sugar to the

water cup. (The sugar will need to be
stirred into the water.) You will need to
record the number of tablespoons, a
photo and explain what happens.Next,
you will need to drop a grape into the
cup. Then you will need to observe what
happens to the grape. Then you will take a picture of where the grape ended up in
the cup and explain what happen.

3. Then you will repeat the steps of adding sugar, dropping the grape in the
cup, and taking a picture of where the grape ended up. Each time you should add
2 tablespoons of sugar.

4. After adding 6 to 8 tablespoons of sugar

the grape should float up near the top of the
cup. Take a photo and explain what happen.

5. In the last step you will write what are

the results of the experiments and if your
hypothesis was correct or not and what you
learned on the experiment.
6. Once you have finished, upload the
word document to tbox.

Use this format every time that you record the steps of the experiment.
