Title
Emily Adventures
(Emily Tingz)
Author
Kalolaine Langi
⋄ Chapter One ⋄

Emily strides along the shoreline. Her long jet black hair flowing through the
strong ocean breeze. She hears a distant sound. Boom Boom Boom. The sound subtle but
consistent. As curious as she is, she began seeking for the source. She sees a dark
rectangle in the distance. As she approaches it the booming sound comes to a sudden
stop. It’s a briefcase.
Later on…

Emily is in her bedroom, with the briefcase on her desk. She’s stares at the
mysterious briefcase with suspicion.

Regardless of her suspicion, curiosity still got the best of her. The words “Mother
Function Incorporation” was engraved in gold on the suitcase. She unlocks the latches
and slowly opens the briefcase.

It’s empty.
3 seconds pass. Emily stares at the bottom of the empty case.
1 minute passes. Emily finally sighs in relief.
“Oh that wasn’t too ba-”
Emily is interrupted, when a wormhole is formed in the center of the suitcase and
sucks her in.
⋄ Chapter Two ⋄

It wasn’t until 2 minutes passed when Emily realised what had occured. Her heart
sank. Thoughts full of worry, confusion, and stress flooded her mind. How am I gonna go
home, she thought. She stops and studies her surroundings. Before her, she sees a sign
that reads “Radical City,” with an ocean of tall buildings behind it. With there being no
other direction to go to, Emily enters the city.

After walking a few blocks she stops at the vertex of an intersection. The road
horizontal had a street sign named “Domain = x-value Ave,” while the street straight
ahead read “Range = y-value Ave.” With not much to go by, Emily decided turned right
into “Domain = x-value Ave.”
Little did Emily know that a few miles away, there was a sleeping driver about to
run her over. It was only when she heard ear throbbing, snoring noises and a quick glance
behind her did she realise her fate. A speeding car was heading towards her way, with no
sign of slowing down, but it was already too late.

All Emily felt was a strong force hit the back of her back.

Everything turned black…

⋄ Chapter Three ⋄

[ Later On...]

In and out of unconsciousness Emily could barely make out her moving
surroundings. She just felt numb and weirdly exhausted.
“Her vitals are negative!” yelled the nurse to her left.
Emily was barely able to make sense of those words before completely blacking
out.

Emily woke up to the strong smell of hospital disinfect. She looked to her left and
saw a monitor, her vitals were now positive. The T.V in front of her reading “Welcome to
Absolute Value Hospital.”
Fortunately her injuries weren’t as serious as she thought, and she was
immediately released from the hospital. At the front desk, while checking out, Emily was
struck frozen at the sight of the hospital bill of 1,143,090,000 won (1,000,000 USD).
Unable to pay the bill, Emily runs away.

⋄ Chapter Four ⋄
Hiding in an alleyway, Emily was approached by a tall dark figure. When the
figure came into the light, it’s face was revealed.

It had a bobbed haircut and bangs, with a short beard to compliment the look. It
was 6’3”, and had a muscular upper appearance, but skinny feminine legs. It wore a blue
sleeveless shirt decorated with irrational numbers, and a pink skirt. Unable to identify
the gender of the person approaching her, Emily was too scared to ask. Instead Emily
introduced herself.
“Hi my name is Emily,” her tone shaky as she was frightened that the approaching
figure was here to arrest her.
Suddenly the person approaching broke down into tears and began to beg for
forgiveness on their knees. Emily shaken by the sudden dramatic apology, began to sooth
them in comfort.
When it calmed down, they introduced themself.
“My name is Dom and I was the driver who ran you over. Please accept my
apology and let me be of service to you.”
Emily accepted the suggestion and then began the journey of Emily and Dom.

⋄ Chapter Five ⋄
In desperation to go back home, Emily and Dom are looking for a way for Emily
to go back home. They see a sign that catches their eye. It reads “Beat this game and any
wish will come true.” Unsure whether to believe the poster, they glance at each other for
approval. They glance back at the poster to look for the location of the game.
Location: Mother Function Incorporation
Later On…

Using Dom’s car, they arrive to the location that was posted on the poster. Mother
Function Incorporation was written in bold on the building. Unknown of what Emily and
Dom were about to get themselves into, they enter the building.

Nothing particularly about the interior of the building appeared to be sketchy, yet
Emily couldn’t shake this uneasy feeling. The floors were decorated with black glossy
tiles. Columns to the left were made with black marble. There was a long front desk to
the right of the entrance, only no one was there to check anyone in.The vacancy only
caused Emily’s suspicion to grow. Emily and Dom slowly approach the front desk,
unsure of where else to go. Emily spots a mini buddhist statue made with green jade
stones.

“Hello?” Emily shouts.

Suddenly, metal shutters began closing every possible exit.
Laughter echoed throughout the building.
⋄ Chapter Six ⋄

“Welcome to the escape room,” sneered the speaker. The malicious voice echoing
from the intercoms.
Emily tightly held onto Dom’s muscular arm, terrified of was to come next.
“Reach the top floor and any deed you wish will come true!”
“That is if… you don’t DIE,” the voice growled.
Suddenly holes in the ceiling opened and water came gushing out. The 3 foot of
water fills the room in an amount of 2 minutes. Emily knew she had to get out and quick.

“Run!” yelled Emily to Dom.

Dom snapped out of shock and quickly ran straight, dragging Emily along. The
water was now to Emily’s chest. They were desperate to find the stairs, hoping that it
would be safer in the second floor. Just to their luck they locate a door with the word
stairs labeled. Dom rattled the door, but to their surprise it’s locked. To the right of the
door, there is a passcode door lock.
*Insert Real Numbers as passcode* read the sign. Quickly rummaging through
her thoughts of past math lessons, Emily inserts the numbers “-1.816”. Luckily she
guesses right and they flood right through the door, and quickly closing it behind them.
They both sigh in relief.

⋄ Chapter Seven ⋄

Emily and Dom are climbing the stairs. The slope of the stairs being linear and
steep, causing them to slip from their wet shoes. Regardless, they kept climbing the stairs,
not sure of what is to come next. Emily’s thoughts are scattered, not sure of how to feel
about the whole situation. Nevertheless they reached the second flight of stairs. They see
a door straight ahead.
Only thing, there is a tablet before the door. The instructions read, “Complete
Surprise Math Quiz to Open Door.” Emily presses the “Start Quiz” button.
First question read, “What is an imaginary number?”
A drop of sweat streamed down Emily’s face.
I should’ve paid more attention in math, thought Emily. Not completely sure of
the answer, Emily types √-1. The screen flashes a green light. Her answer is correct.
Second Question, “Define a Polynomial.”
Emily hands began to shake. She had no clue of the answer. She glances toward
Dom’s direction.
“Do you know answer, Dom,” asked Emily.
With no reply back, Dom approaches the tablet. Dom cracks his knuckles.
Dom types, “ an expression of more than two algebraic terms, that contains
different variables and powers.”
The screen glows a green color. Dom’s answer is correct.
The third question, “ Define Systems of Equations.”
Dom quickly types out his answer,. The screen glows green once again.
The fourth question, “Name a factor of 25, other than 1 and 25.”
Dom types the answer, and screen glows green once again.
Fifth Question, “Define relation.”
Dom gets the question right again.
Emily looks at Dom in a pleasant surprise, glad that she dragged Dom along.
Finally the sixth and last question appears on the screen.
“Type a Rational Number,” read the tablet.
Dom’s reaction to the question was quite different. Dom slowly types out the
answer as if to be uncertain of the answer. Dom’s answer read, “-1.5.”
Emily can only anticipate the results. Her fist clenched, anxious it Dom’s answer
was correct.
Emily sighs in relief as the screen glows green once again. The door ahead
unlocks.

⋄ Chapter Eight ⋄

As they enter through the door, Emily and Dom are met with a surprise. Before
them lies a huge Pac Man. The shape of the Pac man’s mouth reminding Emily of an
inequality symbol. Except the Pac Man began to chase them.

Emily and Dom run for their lives, not knowing which direction to run to. The Pac
man following right behind them. Then Emily spots a sign.
“Roots Room Here,” read the sign, with an arrow pointing to the right. With no
other direction to go, Emily follows the direction of the arrow. The sign leads to door,
which both Emily and Dom enter through without thinking.
⋄ Chapter Nine ⋄
After Emily and Dom entered the roots room, Pac Man stopped following them, as
he was too big to fit through the doorway. Emily looks and sighs out of relief. Her and
Dom stop running and look around, gasping for air after their run.
Big tall brown branches and roots are sticking out from the ground around
them. Emily could barely see past these branches. Luckily, there was clear path and after
a few minutes of rest, Emily and Dom follow the clear path. Everything was quite quiet.
The only noise being the crunching sound from their footsteps as their feet hit the gravel.
Emily just wanted all of this to end. She was tired and thirsty. But she knew they
had to keep going.
So they walked and walked and walked, until they heard malicious laughter in the
distance. The laughter sounded familiar. Emily realised it was him.

⋄ Chapter Ten ⋄
Emily spot the figure in a distance. As they grew closer, she saw that the laughter
was coming from a clown. Her worst fear.
He stood there on a hill, in the shape of a quadratic not moving. Only laughing
until he spotted Emily and Dom.
“Hello my friends,” sneered the clown, “my name is Piecewise.”
The clown chuckled, amused that his little toys have finally arrived.
Suddenly the clown opens his wide mouth, revealing sharp pointy teeth.
Piecewise eats a big chunk of both of their heads.

Emily suddenly wakes up. She looks around, and realises this familiar setting.
She’s in her room.

It was all a dream…
