Research results summary
● Present the main results of your research (from A2) in a concise list of bullet points. This must be in your own words!
● Illustrate your take-aways with imagery wherever you feel this reduces the amount of writing needed. However, don’t
add images for the sake of adding images. Cite any images that you use.
● Cite (in-text) from the sources that you found your answers from. Use the proper MLA format.
TECHNIQUES AND By consulting sources such as, I have found out the following information that I can use for
TOOLS FOR MAKING designing and creating my product:
● I will use a sewing pattern to make the fabrics the perfect size and have an even
and good final product. A good sewing pattern should be made using rulers,
curves and straight edges. The pattern is normally made on a flat surface such as
paper, thicker paper or cardboard. The purpose of a sewing pattern is simply to
help when you assemble the product.
● Sewing machine
● Thread
● Hole punch
● Fabric shears
● And more materials that I could use
CLIENT INFORMATION By consulting sources such as, I have realized the following considerations should be
taken into account when designing and creating my product:
● I will design my upcycled product for a male in their mid 30s-40s, this is generally
the age of dads. The target audience of 30-40 year old males would like a
different style of look compared to a 13 year girl. In my opinion, I would think that
a more basic design such as the colors black, white or a little bit of red.
Furthermore adding a simple design such as a beard or a banksy style art would
appeal to my client. In my opinion this is what a 30-40 year old male would want
while looking for a dust mask.
PRACTICAL SKILLS By completing the practical skills tasks, I have learned the following skills (list & explain):
● I have learned how to do the running stitch. The running stitch is a stitch I think I
have mastered and might be helpful while creating my final product.
● I learned how to sew on a button which could help if I ever need to add one for
extra decoration.
● I have learned how to do the back stitch. The back stitch is strong and useful
while sewing together 2 pieces of fabric.
● I learned how to do an overstitch. This could be useful while stitching the edges
of 2 fabrics and a strong stitch overall.
The skills that will be useful for my project are (list & explain why):
● I will use the running stitch to stitch together pieces of fabric while creating my
product.
● Overstitch could be a stitch I use instead of the running stitch while stitching
together 2 pieces of fabric.
● Sewing a button on could be useful for adding decoration on the dust mask.
● Blanket stitch could be used instead of the running stitch or overstitch, while
stitching together 2 pieces of fabric, not only that the blanket stitch looks the best
in my opinion.
The skills that I still need to practice or want to learn more about are (list & explain):
● I would like to make my running stitches more even instead of making them
uneven such as making one small and one long.
● I would like to get better at stitching together stitches faster than I currently can.
● I would like to make my stitches more neat while stitching fabrics together.
● I would like to learn how not to loop around the sides while doing any stitch.

Project commitment
● State what type of product you are going to develop in your project in this unit and outline the direct practical purpose
of this product.
● Outline the bigger picture purpose of the product.
● Describe the client or target audience for whom you will develop the product.
Product and Purpose In this project, I will create a dust mask for 30-40 year old male.
The purpose of my product is to make dust masks more detailed and interesting than a
plain white mask. I want my target audience to be more intrigued by dust masks and be
more open minded next time while buying plain colored products. I also want my target
audience to be more aware with what the product is made of.
Design Goal My product will address the design problem of -textiles being quickly sent to landfills- by
using a reused garment. I will use an old garment to create a product that will appeal to
my target audience and add an interesting design.
Intended My product is intended to be used by a 30-40 year old male. I will use a style of art for a
Target audience design that would appeal to this target audience.
Target audience representative I would describe my client as interested in designs that are more simple. Their needs and
wants for the product are colors of white or black and only a little design on the dust mask.
The little design should be either a banksy style art or something as simple as a mustache.
