Two Major Religion

Branches
In this google slide, I will explain different things about how the
Protestant branch was born, and the differences between catholics
and protestants.
The main differences and similarities between
Protestant and Catholic branches
● Similarities: They worship the same god. In many continents they cohabit
together.
● Differences: The protestant beliefs are based essentially on the bible, the
catholic beliefs are essentially based on the bible and the catholic church. The
catholic has only one united church, but the protestant has many different
denominations. The catholic consider the pope as their religious head, but the
protestant don’t.
Which are these branches?
These two branches, Catholic and Protestant, broke up in the 16th century.

The invention of the Protestant branch, which at first did not exist and was in the
Roman Catholic branch, is given credit to Martin Luther, Germany, 1483-1546.
Why they broke up
The origin was Martin Luther, professor of theology, who was unhappy of the
pope’s approach to people, the bible, and the church. He made a list of 95 theses,
to nail on the door of his village’s church, which he did on October 31st, 1517.

At first, they were just ideas for the pope to make church better,or reasons why he
could make it better but word quickly spread, more and more people followed
Luther and people quickly turned these ideas into a revolution, making these ideas
turn into a new christian branch, the protestant branch.

After this, the pope counter-attacked and all of this turned to a religious war, the
Thirty Years’ War.
What were the 95 theses?
The 95 theses were a piece of writing by Luther, containing ideas to make Church better, and reasons
why he should improve it, which he nailed to the door of the church of Wittenberg. They were 95 ideas to
make new laws that he thought would be more understandable to Christian people.

The most important theses were (According to

https://www.5minutesinchurchhistory.com/martin-luther-top-5-of-the-95/):

# 1. “When our Lord and Master Jesus Christ said ‘repent’ He intended that the entire life of believers should be repentance.”

# 27. “They preach man made doctrines who say that it’s so soon as the coin jingles into the money box, the soul flies out of
purgatory.”

# 50. “Christians are to be taught that if the pope knew the exactions of the indulgence-preachers he would rather that St. Peter’s
church should go to ashes than that it should be built up with the skin, flesh, and bones of his sheep.”

# 62. “The true treasure of the church is the most holy gospel of the glory and grace of God.”

# 92. “Away then with all those prophets who say to the people of Christ, ‘Peace, peace,’ and there is no peace.”
