Part A – Preliminary Questions

1. How did you come to be placed in the company?

One of my friends working in that company has referred me to them.


I have sent them my resume and cover letter. Seeing my previous IT
experience, they called me for an interview. After getting through the
Interview, I got placed.

2. What do you look for in an employer?

Opportunity – Which helps me for my career growth and enhancing my


technical skills.
Reliability – the underlying understanding between company and employees
Stability – It gives peace of mind that my role is secure
Security – The guarantee feeling I felt while I was speaking to them
Work- life balance – To equally manage all my personal things as well
3. How easy was your transition into the workplace?

Previously, I had some IT experience. So, it didn’t take much time for me to
get used to work culture.
But I took around 2 weeks to understand Australian work culture.

4. How did you balance this role and your other commitments?
The best thing happened here is that I was doing IBL in my summer holiday
time.
So, I had enough time as I could focus only on my work.
I was always punctual to office so that remaining I got time to manage other
things.

5. Are there any tasks you would have done differently in the initial stages of your
placement?
Few things related to work; I have learnt them by referring to online tutorials
So, If I had enough time before commencement of my placement,
I would have started my work even more efficiently.
6. Did you see your skill-set being appropriate for the job?

I feel very happy to say this.


I was appreciated by my employer and clients as well for the work I have
contributed.

7. Did your expectations of your host meet reality?

Yes, we have dealt with real time projects which has lot of scope.
Section B – The Placement

1. Was the work given to you a challenge?

Yes, most of the tasks assigned to me are new to me.


So, it is a challenge to me to work on them in real time.
It gave me scope to learn new things every day.

2. Was the amount of work provided to you sufficient?

Yes, but at on times I felt I was given a bit more work.


But because of it I got to work in fast paced work environment and now I
learnt to meet deadlines and milestones.

3. How are the expectations of industry different to those of a university student


undertaking subjects?
It varies from students having previous industry experience to already
experienced.
But employers are aware of our knowledge levels to assign work to us.
They also care about academics as well. Like, if we are having exams, they
would give liberty to concentrate on exams.
4. What subjects at La Trobe were most relevant to your placement?

Programming subjects especially CSE4OOF, CSE4DBF


CSE5WDC – because I worked on website development
CSE5DEV – I used various data visualization techniques for dashboards and
reports

5. How have your skills developed throughout the placement?

By doing the work assigned to me on time – Time management


Working with team members – Team work
Working with clients, developers team - Communication
They laid path to enhance my inter personal, problem solving, practical skills.

6. What have you learnt about teamwork and interacting with management?
Having a clear goal, assigning clear responsibilities to each individual,
being flexible and adjustable, communicating among team members
effectively, being respectful to everyone’s input and discussing
pros and cons.

7. If your supervisor had to comment on your work, what would they say?

With the comments they personally shared with me,


They are very happy for my contribution to the projects I dealt.
If they had to say my improvements, they would suggest me to continuously
follow up with developers team for getting tasks assigned to them done
quickly.
8. What have you learnt about the value of being organised?

Being organised gave me chance to focus on what I do, contribute more


towards the company’s productivity, time management, setting and achieving
goals.

9. As an aspiring professional, how has the placement changed your view of the
sector?
Placement has changed my perspective in which I am seeing the IT sector.
The insights I got from real time work experience gave me a helping hand
to understand the industry level standards.

10.Please provide any feedback about our placement programs, both good and
bad.
I am seeing this placement program very positively and the support I got from
our subject coordinator needs a special mention.
I got a chance to apply what I have learnt from university.
I only suggest that this program is students must be provided more awareness
on this.
