DIGITAL MANUFACTURING & DESIGN

ROADMAP PROJECT
STEP 4: SELF-ASSESSMENT

For your final 4.0 Roadmap to Success in Digital Manufacturing and Design Technology project,
you will be asked to develop a written “roadmap” that outlines how you will transition your
career from its current state to the future desired state in the Digital Manufacturing & Design
paradigm, using concepts gleaned in this specialization. Your Roadmap will be submitted in
Course 10, as a Peer Review task, which will allow you to get a sense of how others intend to
transition their own careers as well.

By completing each of the Roadmap steps (in Courses 1-9 of the Specialization), you will be
prepared to submit your final 4.0 Roadmap to Success Project. In the final course you will be
asked to submit your final project as a single document. Please be sure to save your work, as
your responses to each of these steps will contribute to your final 4.0 Roadmap to Success
project.

If you haven’t completed steps 1-3, please refer to the lessons in previous courses and
complete those steps before moving on.

Step 4: Self-Assessment
Self-awareness is a key to success! In this step you will use a common tool referred to as SWOT
to help you to better understand your strengths, weaknesses and areas you need to improve in
order to meet your career goals in the field of Digital Manufacturing & Design Technology.
 Conduct a SWOT analysis. SWOT is the acronym for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities
and Threats. To complete your SWOT analysis, consider using one of the templates
provided in the Resources section of this lesson. Once conducted, a SWOT analysis will
begin to reveal what positive attributes you may want to leverage. It will also begin to
reveal weaknesses you may wish to tackle or threats you may need to overcome.

 After reflecting on your SWOT analysis, create a list of action items to focus on as you
transition from your current to a future state in your career in the field of Digital
Manufacturing & Design Technology. By the time you enroll in the next course, update
your project charter with 1-3 action items for you to complete –within an established
time period - that leverages your strengths to attain a prospective opportunity.
Additionally, list at least one action item to mitigate, or reduce, the risk of a threat
adversely impacting you as a result of a one or more of your weaknesses.
You may use this form to document your response. To do so, just place your cursor on the
document and start typing. Don’t forget to save your work! We recommend that you create a
folder on your computer to store your Roadmap assignments, as well as any other material from
the course that will be useful towards your career in DMD.
