3 Tips to Manage and Organize Your Typography

At Digital Graphiks, a reliable web design & development and WordPress development
company in Dubai, we are very fond of typography. From time to time we publish some
informative articles that can play a very interesting yet supportive role in your web projects. We
even take a look at the Variable Fonts, which are currently very popular in web design. But of
course, you are accumulating sources of different projects, or that you add them to your
collection because they can be interesting in future works, and there comes a time that your
typeface library is something uncontrollable.

For this reason, being one of the more reliable and expert graphic design agencies, we want to
show you how to organize our fonts if we are Windows users, something that is not usually
something we stop to consider. Especially since the default management of our sources that
the Microsoft OS allows us is quite basic, being benevolent. We also want to review certain
recommended guidelines if we usually work with a large collection of fonts.

1. Manage Typography from Windows

Adding a new font in Windows is very simple. We simply copy the file to the well-known Fonts
folder, or right click on the file and click on Install. Ready, it has no more mystery. One more
source within our device. To preview it, you just have to right click again, and this time we will
click on Preview. We will open a new window with the pangram of the bat in which we will see
our typography in better conditions.

But since the Windows 10 update of April 2018 , we have some extra options. If we go to the
customization settings, we will have a new option called Fonts. In it, we can search the sources
that we have installed by name.

If we click on any of our fonts, we will be shown a new page that shows the name of the font, a
text box in which we can write what we want to see a preview, a controller to resize, and
information related to source metadata.

2. Organize and Catalog Your Typography: NexusFont

For some time, and noticing how my font collection was growing while the management that
made them Windows 10 fell short, I began to look for an alternative. And among all of them, in
the end I stayed with NexusFont.

Some of its options to highlight are that we have the option both to install the program on our
computer, and to use its portable version, which will leave no trace when we remove it. We can
also try any typography that we have downloaded, without having to install or copy in the
Windows Fonts folder, which is an excellent way to test a specific typeface.

But what I chose the program mainly is because of its management options. As you can see in
the image, we have two large blocks to organize: Bookstores and Collections. In Libraries we can
add the different folders where we have our sources saved. In my case, I have them separated
according to their origin, but you can choose the one you think is most convenient.

And on the other hand with Collections we can group typography under one or several labels,
so as to have them more localizable. It is faster for me, according to the project I have in my
hands, to sort them by styles, in addition to having an extra Collection where favorite typefaces
used by our website development Dubai expert team are these. So, at a glance, we can see
their names and characteristics, and start working with them more quickly and efficiently.

In addition to NexusFont, there are other programs to manage and catalog fonts, such as
FontBase or RightFont, if you are Mac users. As always, we recommend you try different
options until you find one that best suits your needs

3. Some More Tips to Manage Your Sources

 Organize your typefaces by style

As you have seen, it is something that I have begun to do since I use NexusFont. And it is very
useful to have our serif or sans serif fonts together, depending on what type of text we are
creating. And we can create different libraries according to style, year, repository...

 Delete duplicate fonts

This happens when we download fonts from different repositories, and we get to accumulate
so many that we don't remember the ones we already have. A clear symptom of digital
diogenes. So, it is essential to be able to give the case that the same typeface has different
nomenclature according to the web. This will cause, apart from these duplicities, that our team
has to deal with more files, causing certain slowdowns.

 Never delete preinstalled fonts

Although we all have phobias of some fonts that come by default on our computer, it is not a
good idea to get rid of them completely. Instead, it is better to suppress some impulses.
Windows allows us to hide them so that they appear in the list of sources.

 Do not install fonts in multiple formats

Above all we mean installing the same font with different file extensions. Apart from the
duplicities that we have mentioned before, errors can occur.

 Always have your favorite typefaces at hand

It is a good way to streamline our work day by day. Because, although we have a large
collection, there are certain fonts that we use more often and that serve as a wildcard in our
projects. That is why it is very convenient to always have them located.

And you, how do you organize your typeface library? Do you use any specific program? As
always, you can leave your experiences and doubts in the comments, which the world of
typography gives for a lot!

Furthermore, if you have any web project, such as web development or app development
project, our website development Dubai experts and freelance app developers Dubai team,
