ABSTRACT
The study aimed to determine the feasibility of establishing new undergraduate
academic programs in Interworld Asian Institute, Inc. Based on the analysis of gathered
data, it is feasible to offer the proposed programs. The strengths of the proposed
programs are in terms of very high viability as regards management, market demand of
graduates, financial and operational aspects.
I. INTRODUCTION
When an aspiring entrepreneur, who has no educational background in
business management, decides to start his own business, a significant amount of
time will have to be put into learning how the system works and how he can make it
work for him.
On the other hand, a person who has taken a business management course
in college will, at the very least, be familiar with various marketing strategies and will
spend much less time on training wheels.
Respondents
The respondents of this study consisted of ten high schools in Tarlac City and
two high schools in Sta. Ignacia, Tarlac. These schools were considered feeder
schools of the College. The total graduating student-population is one thousand
million from the said schools. Table 1 presents the respondents of the study.
Interview
Information from other external sources such as Public Employment Service
Office (PESO) managers and HRD managers were gathered by conducting
interviews.
Documentary Analysis
Papers pertinent to the College’s mission and goals, academic programs,
faculty, record and property section were all subjected to documentary analysis.
Job Opportunities
Accounting
As certified accounts, graduates of this program may work as external
auditors, tax consultants, cost analysts, financial analysts, budget analysts, credit
analysts and cost accountants.
Human Resources
People in this field are responsible for everything related to employees—from
searching for prospects to interviewing and hiring, and monitoring their status in the
company. Communication, management, and personal skills are the core
requirements in this field.
How well a company performs is determined by the level at which its
employees do their job, and human resources officers are expected to bring in the
best people into the company.
Sales
Sales is a broad term, and can be further subdivided into smaller categories.
There are sales representatives, who are responsible for reaching out to potential
consumers; sales managers, who work behind the curtains and are tasked with
setting goals and ensuring that they are met; and other administrative positions.
The key skills in this field are communication and financial skills. The
performance of this department depends on the quality of the connections with
clients, and has a direct effect on the company’s profits or losses.
Finance
Business management majors, who have an affinity for accounting, are a
perfect fit in this field. The job of financial analysts is to determine the appropriate
price the products should be sold at. This is done by closely analyzing information
from competitors to consumers, and by making accurate business forecasts.
Financial analysts and officers ensure that the company’s accounts are 100%
accurate, and are responsible for generating reports on the company’s current
financial status.
Other Options
Aside from those mentioned above, there are also other career options for
business management majors—the skills you have learned can also land you other
jobs such as stockbroking, systems analysis, and even life coaching.
A business management course prepares you more than enough so that you
have enough choices and control in how your career unfolds.
On Institutional Mandate
The operation of Interworld Asian Institute, Inc. is based on its institutional
philosophy quoted as:
“INSTITUTIONAL PHILOSOPHY HERE”
In support of the vision and goals of the university, the academic institution is
mandated to hold on the mission statement as quoted:
“MISSION STATEMENT HERE”
It is along this mandate that the College is proposing the offering of these
programs.
On Management Viability
Management viability of the proposed program is in consideration of the
qualifications of the faculty members who will be assigned to handle the subjects of
the program, as well as the management competence of the college in particular.
The College is manned by highly qualified staff. The deans and department
chairpersons are master’s and doctorate degrees graduates with vertically aligned
specializations. Another strength of the College is it continuous initiative in
prioritizing faculty and staff development.
On Market Viability
Demand for Graduates/Employment Opportunities
The information regarding demand for graduates and employment
opportunities were determined through interviews with 2 Public Employment
Services Office (PESO) managers and 7 HRD managers. The result of the
interview affirmed the demands for graduates along these industries as they
envision restructuring and reinventing their respective companies in response to
the economic “reboot” brought about by the COVID-19 health crisis.
From the result of the interviews, it was found out that industries in Tarlac
City and in the province of Tarlac like Sitel, Sutherland, SM City Tarlac,
International Wiring System, Jelexie Corporation are in dire need of graduates of
these programs.
Prospective Students
Majority of the respondents are willing to enrol in the proposed programs.
To advertise it proposed programs and attract students, the institution will
intensify its promotional activities such as career orientation, student-referral
program, career caravan, brochures and poster distribution and streamer
installation.
