Results from 2019 English

Association Survey- Saint Paul


Institute
In 2019, Saint Paul Institute hosted a volunteer from the University of Notre Dame
Australia for two months. The English Association was formed as a weekly club for
students to develop their listening and speaking skills alongside a native speaker
from Australia. Students were given the opportunity to complete an optional survey
at the end of the program about their experiences in the English Association. These
are the results.

1) What did you like about the English Association?


 I like activity in the class such as reading, listen and conversation.
 I like speaking, reading and practices.
 I like writing, listening and speaking.
 I like group debate.
 I like speaking and listening.
 I like work in group and practice.
 I like about English reading, writing and speaking.

2) What didn’t you like about the English Association? What could we do
differently to make it better?
 You could speak slowly and clearly.
 I can’t listening for fast speaking.
 I don’t like that you said fast.
 I like all about English Association and if I have next time I want to have
debate again.
 I didn’t like your speaking because you spoke very fast and I didn’t get it
when you explained. Opposite this, I want you to speak more slowly and
clearly.
 I don’t like listening. She speaks slow, just better.
 I don’t like teacher when she speaks English fast. I would like to teacher
speaking slowly.
 I don’t like writing and speaking. I will try to do is better.
 I don’t like writing and when you speak English very fast. You should
speak a lot of with students.
 I don’t like when you speak fast. I will try to do it.
 I don’t like about communication in class. It is difficult to communicate with
students who study other majors.
 I don’t like about communication. I want to make together move good
communication.

3) Were the topics interesting and useful? What other topics would you
like to learn about?
 Debate
 Debate, listening and speaking
 I interested about debate. And other topics I would like to learn more about
writing and send Gmail.
 I really interesting because make me happy and have a lot of experience.
The topics I would like to learn about cover letter.
 I’m interested in topic about cover letter and it easy applying to work. I
would like to learn about conversation.
 I’m interesting topics debate. I like to learn about topics writing email.
 I’m really interested with the topic and it has useful for me to improve my
English. And I would like to learn conversation and the story too.
 Mobile phones should be banned at University.
 My interesting topic is cover letter. I want to more about the topic.
 The topic is very interesting for debate but I want more topic is “how
should we prepare for our study at University to succeed in our future.”
 Topic interesting debate. I would like other topic about reading and writing.
 Yes, I’m really interesting with these topic and I want to get another topic
such as public speaking and how to study easy to understand.

4) Were the activities fun and helpful to your learning?


 Debate
 I think the activities is fun and I really happy when teacher has create
debate programme for us to get experience, especially I get more
encourage than before.
 It’s make me fun all activities because this is experience for me and first
time for me.
 Class discussion and debate.
 It wasn’t so fun. I want more differently activities than is so fun and
interesting.
 Role play and debate and watching videos.
 The activities is fun and helpful for my learning is Debate.

5) Was Claire well prepared and confident teaching the class?
 Yes, she was.

6) Do you feel more confident speaking English now?


 64% of respondents claimed that they felt more confident speaking English
after participating in the English Association.
 29% of students did not feel more confident and 7% were unsure.

7) Rate English Association out of 5 stars.


 60% of respondents rated the program as 4 stars or above.
 30% of respondents rated the program as 3 stars.
 7% of respondents rated the program as 1 star.

 I wish you can come to volunteer next year. Thank.
 Make more English speaking in class.
 You should have make more activities for all students in the class like
practice.
 I want to have more volunteer for Saint Paul Institute from Australia next
year. I really like this program. Thank you so much for your volunteer here.

about the debate because it is a good topics that make all of students
improve their English.
