The initial call was rectived at scene at 2159 hours. Officer Coria told me that he fired two rounds (w (ding near the driver door of his patrol vehicle) from his duty weapon in a southerly directic suspect. Officer Coria did not recall any shots being fired from the suspect's | rifle, ith Corporal Tanore and obtained his Public Safety statement. Corporal Tanore told me rounds from his duty weapon in a southerly direction at the suspect. Corporal Tanore ‘are of any shots being fired from the suspect's rifle. During the investigation, it was determined that SMPD officers were i shooting with the suspect holding the rifle. Upon arrival, I was directed by Sgt. While en route, SMPD Dispatch @dvised that they were now getting numerous 9-1-1 calls regarding the same pele pointing a rifle at passing cars. [ received a phone call from Lieutenant Ginter was the evening Watch Commander. He stated that there had been an officer involved sho at Waller Lane and State Route 135 (Broadway). ‘The shooting involved three of our dfieers who had discharged their weapons at the suspect who was pointing a rifle at them. Thebubject was struck once in the leg. Lt. Ginter stated our officers were not injured and he wax'tedpending to the scene, He asked if the Santa Barbara Sheriff's Department (SBSO) wougnpaesiaing the incident 1 sid they would. I relayed this information to Chief Macagni ybubld me he will see me at the scene. Upon arrival to Waller and 135, I contacted Sergeant Marc Schneider Who briefly informed me that officers Coria, Wheeler, and Tanore were the offigers-wh ischarged their weapons. Sgt. Schneider informed me that the in-car video.aifit in | Wheeler’s vehicle was not functioning. Unit 347 (Tanore) had video consistent with the two above, I it Officer Fuggs had the best video out of the three. By this time officers were setting up erime scene tape to establish a perimeter. Chief Macagni left the scene at this time and I went to the center of the intersection where other officers were at. Detective Paul Zelis arrived and I briefed him based on what I had seen from the video.
