There is currently a great deal of confusion between LED (Light Emitting Diode) and
LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) televisions.

This partly due to the dubious marketing practices by some if the larger
manufacturers. In an effort to re-brand the enormously successful LCD TV¶s, of
which they have sold millions of units (many have been a little slow to clarify just
how much of the television is actually lit by LED compared to LCD.

An u
is a video display that produces its lighting through light emitting
diodes. An u
is a small display, or a component of a larger display often
used for larger outdoor locations such as shop signs and billboards.

LED-LCD backlight televisions use Light Emitting Diodes, opposed to the less
efficient (CCF¶s) cold cathode fluorescents most commonly found in traditional LCD
televisions. The use of light emitting diodes results in less power consumption,
brighter displays, and superb contrast levels.

LED TVs are simply an extension or new form of LCD Television. The difference is
the backlight opting for LED (light emitting diode) based backlighting.

The panel on an LED TV is still an LCD TV panel and operates the with the same
twisting crystals matrix. The backlight is the difference - changing from fluorescent to
LED (light emitting diode).

The LG 42-inch Widescreen LED 3D Internet TV with Freeview HD is curretly, one

of the only models that has back and side lighting. This is also a 3-D tv so the extra
LED lighting really helps the images pop out of the screen in 3D mode.
ecause of the enhanced light and brightness produced by the LED¶s the viewer is
offers incredible clarity and an ideal platform for extra features such 3D and Internet
Ready TV.

enefits over LCD only sets, include:

1] Improved picture
2] Improved contrast
3] Improved colours
4] Reduced power consumption and running costs
5] Enhanced features - HD, Internet TV, 3D Ready TV
6] Thinner displays

LED: LCD is set to dominate the luxury TV market over the next 5 years when the
technology will allow FULL LED Lighting to become available to the masses but
until then LED: LCD is the way to go, if funds allow, of course!

Ê

Plasma televisions have been around for some time now and primarily use a matrix
with of millions of individual pixel cells, that process voltage which in turn excites
rare natural gases.

LCD and LED: LCD use very different technology to provide crystal clear vibrant
colours and enhanced viewing.

LED (Light Emitting Diodes) use a matrix of micro thin-film transistors that send
electrical voltage to liquid-crystal-filled cells µsandwiched¶ (extremely tightly)
between two sheets of glass. When the electrical charge passes through the glass, the
crystals unwind to a set resistance, filtering white light generated by a lamp behind
the screen.

(In the same way liquid crystal displays 'excites' or 'unwind' ...the crystals in LCD
televisions.

Full HDTV, ultra-HD, true HDTV and1080p, are next generation display
technologies capable of image resolutions of 1920 by1080 pixels. y offering
enhanced pixilation and contrast the new HD Televisions are the pinnacle of High
Definition viewing.

The &

' numeral often found in the description of indicates horizontal lines
in the complete raster.
The p stands for $
$
(where each scan displays every line in the
image raster sequentially from top to bottom).

stands for
$ (where each scan displays alternate lines in the
image raster, and two complete scans are therefore required to display the entire
image).

Progressive scanning is considered superior to interlaced scanning for full-motion

video displays, due to jitter reduction - this becomes increasingly noticeable on
moving images transitioning diagonally or vertically across the screen.

The improvement is especially noticeable for fast-moving images more commonly

found in action films, sports events and video games. There have been a wave of 3D
and HD movie releases on domestic cable channels operated by SKY and Virgin
Media. If you are a SKY or Virgin subscriber, you have probably seen the adverts for
Avatar, Alice in Wonderland and Inception, all in 3D.

With 3D Ready Televisions set to become a fixture in 1 in 5 UK homes over the next
5 years it would seem that HD will become the standard technology for all luxury
home entertainment systems.

e sure to look out for the HD Ready sticker when buying your new LED TV!
