SEXUAL TRANSMITTED INFECTION/DISEASE 2.

Scabies
- Infection that is passed from one person to another through sexual - type of animal or insect that distantly related to spider
activity such as oral sex, vaginal sex and anal sex. - not big as lice (0.3 millimeters) won’t be able to see in naked eye
- eating your flesh (which will look like red pimple or rashes)
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN S.T.I. AND S.T.D.
female scabies burrow more into the skin down to stratum corneum (outer
“All STD’s are STI but Not all STI’s are STD.” layer of the skin) in which you will not going to feel the burrow process
Infection - it produces 3-4 eggs per day
- invasion and multiplication of microorganisms such as bacteria, - egg hatch and grows into adult mite into 10 days
parasites or viruses which are not normally present in our body. - can live 72 hrs. (3 days and nights) outside the body)

Disease Transmission
- illness resulting from infection which leads to damage our body 1. Direct contact
organs a. Skin to skin
Example: b. Sexual contact
A woman with HIV does not have any symptoms, but she carries the 2. Indirect contact- sharing clothing, towels or bedding
virus, she has an STI. If she develops cervical cancer from HIV, she now has
an STD since cancer is a disease. Symptoms
- does not show symptoms for 6 weeks
Medically speaking, STD starts out from STI and when the infection starts - cause intense itching, burning, redness, tiny red spots
multiplying, STI will progress into different diseases. - often worse at night or after warm shower

The usage of STI are seemingly more preferred by the patients which in part to Treatments
less negative stigma. - cream, shampoo or lotion left overnight to lessen itchiness
- antihistamine tablets or cream (treatment for allergies)
CLASSIFICATION OF INFECTIOUS DISEASE BY TIMING - wash all clothing in hot temperature to kill mites and avoid re-
infection
1. Primary infection - things that cannot be washed like leather should be put in tied black
- infection that develops in otherwise healthy individual plastic bags and left 3 days and nights until the mites die

2. Secondary infection 3. Trichomoniasis or Trich

- infection that develops in an individual who is already infected with - STI that are caused by a protozoan parasite (trichomonas vaginalis)
different pathogen. - they eat cells of our body and destroy it for nourishment
- mainly occur in women sometimes in men
The infection can exist in a person’s body 2 or more than at a time. - produce bad odor frothy(bubbles) green discharge caused by the
inflammation (means more cells leads to death)
SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS ARE CATEGORIZED INTO - leads to preterm labor
THREE:
- prostate cancer for male
- can’t survive outside the body only inside the vagina
Parasitic infection
- infection caused or transmitted by a parasite
Transmission
Parasite- insects/ organism that lives of to another organ and takes - unprotected sex
its nourishment from other organism. - unwashed sex toys with vaginal fluid or cum/pre-cum
- from mother to baby during delivery
Bacterial infection
- these are caused by bacteria/germs You can’t get it by Casual contact such as kissing, sitting in toilet sits, hugging

Viral infection Symptoms

- caused by harmful virus that highjacks and copy the cells Male symptoms
- asymptomatic
COMMON TYPES SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTION/DISEASE - they are possible carrier of infection that can spread to women
- soreness around the foreskin
I. PARASITIC INFECTIONS: - discharge from the penis
- pain while urinating
1. Pubic lice - passing urine more frequently
- it is also known as crab louse (1.6 millimeters)
- lice that lives in the pubic area Women symptoms
- Can live up to 24 hrs. outside the body - painful sex
- itching or soreness
Common infestations - discharge from vagina
1. Infestation of pubic hair
2. Infestation of eyelashes Treatment
3. Sometimes Infestation of body hair except head - Common antibiotics metronidazole- 2 times a day for 7 days
Transmission
1. Direct contact II. BACTERIAL INFECTIONS
a. Skin to skin
b. Sexual contact 1. Chlamydia
2. Indirect contact- sharing clothing, towels or bedding - one of the most common STI
- often co infects with gonorrhea
Symptoms - infect the cervix (neck of the womb), urethra (tube which pass the
- Itching urine) rectum (back passage), pharynx (throat), sometimes eyes
- Black spots - it causes infertility of the women if not treated
- Small blood spots
Transmission
Treatments - Unprotected sex (vaginal, oral, anal)
- cream, shampoo or lotion (repeat 3 to 7 days) - using unwashed sex toys with vaginal fluid or cum/pre-cum
- don’t need to shave pubic hair instead use special comb - direct contact (like scratching genitals and touching into the eyes)
- wash all clothing in hot temperature to kill lice and avoid re-infection - from mother to baby during delivery
You cannot get Chlamydia by blood or Casual contact such as kissing, sitting You cannot get gonorrhea by Casual contact such as kissing, sitting in toilet
in toilet sits, hugging sits, hugging

Symptoms Treatment
- Antibiotics (ceftriaxone and penicillin)
Men symptoms 3. Syphilis
- half the men and 7 out of 10 of women don’t experience any - Look like spiral or sore look like burn
symptoms - Usually in Men to men
- pain or discomfort while urinating - Commonly known as Great imitator
- bleeding from the back passage (rectum) - It can cause serious damage in brain, heart and nervous system
- pain and swelling in one or both testicles

Sore called Chancre
Women symptoms - occurs around the external genitals, in the vagina, tip of the penis,
- bleeding after sex around the anus, in the rectum, or around the mouth
- pain in urine - painless
- pain in tummy
- vaginal itching Transmission
- vaginal discharge or Pus discharge (caused by dead white blood - Skin to skin- direct contact with syphilis sore
cells) - Unprotected sex (oral, vaginal, anal)
- Blood transfusion
Treatment
- antibiotics (doxycycline or penicillin – 2 days a week)
- Mother to baby
- shouldn’t have sex if treated for around weeks
You cannot get it by Casual contact such as kissing, sitting in toilet sits,
hugging
2. Genital warts
- Look like pieces of cauliflower or excess skin Symptoms
- Caused by HPV 6 and 11 (it means low risk) - Usually Asymptomatic (3 weeks before it shows symptoms)
- most of them don’t develop cancer - Vary from a painless sore to a rash all over the body
Genital warts are different from warts - Symptoms occur where infection is directly spread
- Symptoms depends on how long do you have this infection
Transmission
- genital skin to skin contact Treatment
- sexual contact (oral, vaginal, anal) - Antibiotics- penicillin
- sometimes from mother to baby through vaginal childbirth

Symptoms III. VIRAL INFECTION

- no symptoms
1. Hepatitis B Virus
- flesh colored lumps
- Viral infection that infects liver
- bumps on the skin- genital or anal area
- Can cause liver cancer, pneumonia, tuberculosis and etc.
Treatment Transmission
- cryotherapy- use extreme cold in surgery - Unprotected sex
- surgery removal- using loop electrode - Sharing toothbrush/towels with infected blood
- cream - Sharing needles
- Mother to baby
3. Gonorrhea or the clap/the drip
- Looks like balls Symptoms
- It is a bacteria that has a pair of two balls that travels together - Usually in the first stage is asymptomatic
- It infects the penis, vagina, cervix, anus, urethra, throat and eyes - Flu-like
- The immune system sends white blood cells to the infected area of - White of the eyes turns yellow
the body - Yellowish skin
- Vomiting and loss of appetite
- White blood cells: main function is to defend body against infection - Belly pain
- The white blood cells swallow the bacteria which leads to
inflammation - Light colored poop
- The inflammation(dead white blood cells and infection) goes out to
Treatment
the vagina or penis which is known as discharge
- Hepatitis B Vaccination
Transmission
Who should be vaccinated?
- Carried by pre-cum, cum, vaginal fluids and blood
- Men who have sex with men
- unprotected sex
- People who injects drugs
- rimming (anilingus)
- unwashed toys - Partners who lives with someone with HBV
- Sex workers
- mother to baby - Sexually assaulted
Symptoms
2. Human Immunodeficiency Virus
Men symptoms - Fastest mutating organism in the planet
- 1 in 10 men no symptoms - 1 million times faster than bacteria
- discharge from tip of penis
- burning pain while passing urine H- infects only human beings
- Pain and swelling in one or both testicles I- Weakens immune system
V- Virus attacks the body
Women symptoms
HIV can lead to AIDS if it is untreated for many years
- 7 in 10 women no symptoms
- Sore throat Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome
- burning pain while passing urine A- Acquired not inherited
- Pain sex I- Weakens immune system
- Urinate more frequently D- creates deficiency in CD4
S- syndrome that causes group of illness
CD4 cells
- Helper cells
- Send signals to the immune systems

Transmission
- Unprotected sex
- Sharing needles
- Through Contaminated blood
- Mother to baby
You cannot get HIV from mosquito or by Casual contact such as kissing,
sitting in toilet sits, hugging

Symptoms
- Flu like illness
- Sore throat
- Head ache
- Rashes
- Tiredness

Treatment
Anti-Retroviral Therapy
- It reduces the amount of HIV
- Reduces HIV transmission
- Prevents for HIV from advancing to AIDS
- Protects immune system
- Life time treatment

3. Human Papilloma Virus

- Group of 100 viruses that infects people
- HPV 16 and 18 is a type of HPV that can be passed through sexual
activity with high risk which can lead to cancers

It infects human epithelial cells which is the barrier between the body and
the external environment that plays important roles like protection,
filtration, absorption, and sensation.
- The virus goes its way down to the cells the bottom or basal layer of
skin and infects them as they divide the virus starts to make copies
of itself
- The infected cells move up to the skin layers and releasing new
viruses that can spread infection to the other cell
- It multiplies several weeks or months

Transmission
- skin to skin contact
- Vaginal, Anal, Oral sex
- Mother to baby

Symptoms
- Asymptomatic (it takes a year/s before it shows symptoms)
- Genital warts appear on small bump or group bumps

Treatment
- HPV vaccine which protects against virus from multiplying and
prevent from arising different cancers but it has a side effects like
headache, fever, pain and redness in the arm where the shot was
given.
