SKYLAB SPACECRAF T NEWS REFERENCE COMMAND AND SERVICE MODULES Od ace Division Ri shall eter ‘national FOREWORD The Skylab Spacecraft News Reference was prepared by the Space Division of Rockwell International Corporation, Downey, California, in cooperation with NASA’s Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, Houston, Texas, and the Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville, Ala. The book is divided into the following sections: 1. General information about the Skylab program, the command and service modules, a brief look at two important future United States space programs, the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project (ASTP) and Space Shuttle, and a list of abbreviations used in this book. 2. A detailed description of the command and service modules, the spacecraft-lunar module adapter, and the two Skylab program launch vehicles, the Saturn V and the Saturn 1-B. 3. Detailed descriptions of the major subsystems of the command and service modules. 4. Brief descriptions of the experiments to be carried out by the three Skylab crews. In the third section, information on most of the subsystems follows this format: First, a general description of the system, its equipment, and its functions, followed by an equipment list containing all major data about key equipment. Then, a detailed description of the subsystem’s operation. The general description normally should provide the information needed about each subsystem. Photographs and illustrations in this volume are available for publication.
