LESSON PLAN TEMPLATE
In this lesson… the students will use straws, that are cut to different sizes, to create
Overview different pitches

Standard(s) of 4-PS4.A.2 Waves of the same type can differ in amplitude (height of the wave) and
Learning wavelength (spacing between wave peaks)
Students will be able to…
● Effectively be able to create a straw that makes a pitch
Objectives ● Gain a greater understanding and concept of pitch
● Correctly answer discussion questions

I can… comprehend the background reading on pitch to gain a better understanding

Learning Target of what pitch is and how it works, before cutting a straw to effectively create my
own pitch.

○ Calling on a couple of students while passing out worksheets or
Introduction/ writing the KEY INFO that the students say on the board
Hook ● Read aloud the background info to the students while having it on the
mainboard and explaining words such as frequency, molecules, and
rarefactions if need be.
● Pass out worksheet with or have these written on the board
1. Bite down on one end of the straw to make it flat.
2. Cut the flattened end to make a V shape.
3. Open the flattened part of the straw a little.
