Scheduled maintenance
The vehicle model series Actros, Antos, Arocs (model 963, 964), Atego
(model 967) and Econic (model 956) are equipped with a maintenance
system.
The maintenance intervals are determined by a computer specific to
the load involved.
Maintenance information
The corresponding maintenance service ("W", "M", "Z") to be
performed and the time-based maintenance operations must be ticked
off by the Service Advisor in the fields provided on the applicable
maintenance sheet.
A distinction is made between the following maintenance services:
W = Maintenance (depends on the indicator in the display)
M = Engine maintenance (depends on the indicator in the display)
Z = Additional scopes
The time-based maintenance operations are designated, for example,
to the left of the respective maintenance item by the following:
Transmission maintenance (dependent on indication on display)
Axle maintenance (dependent on indication on display)
Diesel particulate filter maintenance (dependent on indication on
display), as from VIN 880138, engine 934.9, 936.9
J1 - J6 = Time-based servicing scheme - Maintenance operations
annually, every 2, 3, 6 years
J1 = Additional operation annually
The completion of the individual maintenance items should be
documented on the maintenance sheet by making a cross in the boxes
in front of the operation titles.
A check mark should be entered in the boxes after the operation titles
to identify items which were not OK when the vehicle was received.
The person carrying out the work provides confirmation of this by a
signature in the top part of the maintenance sheet.
Use of fatty acid methyl ester (FAME), only engine 471
When refueling the vehicle with fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) for the
first time, the interval for the engine oil and oil filter change is
automatically reset by the maintenance computer to max. 60,000 km
or one year.
Maintenance documentation
On vehicles with a maintenance booklet, completion of the
maintenance and, where applicable, completion of any additional
operations must be confirmed on the confirmation pages.

The maintenance work to be performed appears in the display or can
be read out there.
Additional maintenance jobs, which are not determined by the
computer as a function of load, are specified in time intervals.
Perform safety-relevant work according to the national legislation, but
at least once a year if no statutory inspections are planned within a
year.
J2 = Additional operations every 2 years
J3 = Additional operations every 3 years
J4 = Additional operations every 4 years
J6 = Additional operations every 6 years
JS = Time-based servicing scheme - Safety-relevant operations
once annually
V2 = Adjust valve clearance (for 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th etc. engine
maintenance), engine 936.9
V3 = Adjust valve clearance (for 1st, 4th, 7th, 10th etc. engine
maintenance), engine 470.9, 471.9, 473.9
Z1 = Additional operations once for 1st maintenance
Z2 = Additional operations (diesel particulate filter) for every
2nd maintenance - Engine maintenance up to VIN 880137, engine
936.9
Z4 = Additional operations every 4 years
ZX = Additional operations (diesel particulate filter) for 3rd
maintenance - Engine maintenance, then for each 2nd
maintenance - Engine maintenance, engine 470.9, 471.9, 473.9
It is not necessary to check the fluid levels of major assemblies
(transmission, retarder, transfer case, front axle, rear axle, steering
and clutch operation). The major assemblies are only inspected for
leak tightness.
If any leaks are present, the cause must be determined and rectified,
subject to a separate repair order.
The fuel filter must be changed every 30,000 km.
On vehicles with a Digital Service Booklet (DSB), execution must
be confirmed in the DSB and a service report must be printed out
for the customer.
