Case Study 1
A production manager is concerned about the low level of his employees. The articles that he read
on job performance frequently mentioned four variables are important to job performance such as
skill required to the job, rewards, motivation and satisfaction. In several of the articles it was also
indicate that only if the rewards were attractive to the recipients and they got motivated, satisfied and
the performance also increased, not otherwise.
Given the above situation, answer the following questions
i.Define the research problem
ii.Identify the variable for the above situation
iii.Write down at least two hypothesis
iv.Frame 10 questions(minimum) to understand the expectation of the current employees

i)The research problem, in this case, is low-level performances of employees in the company. The
causes of the low-level performance might be a lack of skills to the job, motivation, satisfaction, and
rewards.  
ii)The variable of this situation is the employees' performance.
iii) a)If the company gives the employees attractive rewards, the employees will be motivated and
satisfied and thus raise the level of performance.
b)If the company hires employees of the right skills, the employees' performances will increase.

Case Study 2
A manufacturer of baseball cards, football cards, and other sport and novelty cards had never
conducted business research with its customers. The president of the company decided that the
company needed to learn more about its customers. He instructed his business research department
to conduct a focus group with some boys in the fourth grade.
Given the above situation, answer the following questions
a.Define the research problem and outline what you would like to learn in the focus group
b.What particular problems might be involved when conducting a focus group with children?
c.Identify the variable for the above situation

a)The research problem here is that the company has little knowledge of its customers. The
research through Focus group Discussion will help the company to understand the customers better.
From the focus group discussion, I will love to learn which sports card the fourth graders love more. I
will also love to learn what other purposes the cards played to the fourth graders. Another what
changes they will see in the cards.
b)It can be hard to control and manage the fourth graders during the focus group discussion.
Another problem is that the children may start irrelevant discussions and disagreement which may
prolong the discussion.  
c)The variable is customer preference.
