Comments by Evaluator
The paper was well constructed and
thoughtful. All of the framing
questions were responded to. The
examples generally demonstrated
knowledge of the material, but in
some cases lacked sufficient detail
to confirm this. There was minimal
application of Canadian examples,
and the ethical frame was not
consistently applied.

Unfortunately there were

numerous spelling mistakes (noted
in the inline feedback). In addition,
the student slipped into a casual
(colloquial) tone during the
discussion of the current discourse
in a way that detracted from the
overall academic tone of the paper
(i.e. used contractions - "The study
didn't include the voice of First
Nations communities..." Paper was
not double spaced.

Comments by Evaluator
The paper clearly identifies the
technology and its current uses in
society today.

The paper provided a very high-

level description of only the most
obvious issues resulting from the
technology.

The ethical frame was well defined,

and a limited analysis of how it
applies to the selected technology
was provided. The student
frequently did not use appropriate
technical language to frame ethical
considerations.

Comments by Evaluator
The student thoroughly explored
the costs and benefits of the
technology. Both implicit and
explicit costs were identified with
the ethical frame clearly being
applied as part of the consideration.

The student relied an

unaccountable source to
substantiate criticisms of the
technology provider (i.e. a personal
blog on Medium). There is
conflicting information in other
media sources that are readily
available that readily refute the
accusations that serve as the basis
of the paper.

A limited scan of the discourse is

provided, with a severe bias toward
one side of the argument. The
student did not provide appropriate
references for the arguments and
did not leverage the ethical frame
to filter through the perspectives.
An overview of the global trend for
government responses to the key
issues is provided, with a high-level
call out of the Canadian position.

This section was framed in by the

fears created by the misinformation
that was noted in the section
regarding transparency. In addition,
the student provided no meaningful
measures to mitigate these
concerns.
An overview of society's readiness is
provided that is appropriate and
comprehensive. There is clear
rationale that reflects a suitable
application of the ethical frame.
The student reflected specifically on
Canadian society versus simply a
global scan, which was very
appropriate, given the degree to
which this technology is more
appropriate and intended for
developed nations.
