Second Semester, SY 2017-2018
UNIVERSITY VISION
A premier university in a global community.
UNIVERSITY MISSION
To develop an empowered, productive and morally upright citizenry through high quality, innovative,
and relevant instruction, research, extension programs and entrepreneurship programs adhering to international
standards.
CORE VALUES
The core values developed among students of the university use the acronym “ACTS” which stands for
the following:
A - Academic Excellence: Delivery of high quality, innovative, and relevant instruction and acquisition
of globally competitive skills.
C - Cultural Diversity: Equitable access to education for students/clients of diverse ethnic identities and
sustained commitment to nourish indigenous cultures.
S - Social Responsibility: Initiatives and priorities in contributing global expertise to create positive
impact on the University’s service areas to attain the highest standards of organizational citizenship.
III. COURSE DESCRIPTION This course introduces the students to action researches and
scientific investigation in education and allied fields as well as
in pure and applied sciences. It presents the different types of
research studies that can be used in the study of educational
problems and eventually come up with alternative solutions. It

VIII. RATIONALE This course provides the necessary information and basic
concepts of research for the development of understanding and
appreciation of its value in the field of education and allied
fields. It is designed to maximize the use of variables, theories
and concepts in the formulation of research problems related
to education and allied fields. Moreover, it will also develop
awareness among education students on the importance of
research in bringing out solutions to problems related to the
teaching-learning process and related fields.
IX. OBJECTIVES At the end of the semester, the students must have:
1. Defined action research;
2. Identified scientific traits and attitudes exhibited in various
situations;
3. Used scientific inquiry to investigate materials, events and
phenomena in the natural world (designing experiments,
collecting organizing, analyzing and interpreting, data,
making conclusions, and communicating results;
4. Analyzed advantages and disadvantages of different
solutions to particular problems;
5. Constructed an action research composed of five chapters;
and
6. Successfully defend the action research to the members of
the oral examination committee.
