First Classroom Reflection

I had my first classroom presentation with Mrs. Liu, my Chemistry GT teacher, during

my normal period. This, I would consider to be my “warm” presentation as the chemistry teacher

would probably know about the biological mechanisms in my topic possibly more than I do and I

know the people in the class. I think that, overall, I did very well. I feel as if I spoke about my

topic eloquently and demonstrated my own depth in knowledge. I thought my pacing, generally,

was also smooth except for at the very beginning, when all of a sudden, I forgot what words

were. I also think that I should have figured out Mrs. Liu’s presentation clicker in more detail

prior to my presentation. A couple of times, the clicker clicked forward when I didn’t want it to

or it didn’t work at all. Another mistake that I made was almost talking too much. My

presentation ended somewhere around 10 minutes and where I did have quite a few questions at

the end, I felt as if in some places I was repeating myself when it absolutely was not necessary.

A couple of goals I have for my next two presentations are to figure out how I can state my ideas

in a more concise manner, to not forget what my first 3 slides are, and to practice with the clicker

before I have to present. Overall, this classroom presentation was very successful.

Second Classroom Presentation Reflection

I had my second classroom presentation with Mr. Martin, my past Biology GT teacher,

during his 3rd period general biology class. This, I would consider to be my “neutral”

presentation as the biology teacher would probably know about the biological mechanisms in my

topic but I knew virtually no one in the class. I generally think that I did well on this

presentation. Like the previous time, I feel as if I spoke about my topic in a detailed way and

demonstrated my own depth of knowledge in my specific topic. I think, however, that my

transitions were still too rough between ideas like going from talking about what I know to

sources and site visits. Wonderfully, there weren’t any issues with technology, or at least none

that couldn’t have been solved in seconds. This time, I didn’t feel redundant so much as just

talking way too fast and not allowing my thoughts to catch up. My presentation ended

somewhere around 8 minutes. A couple of goals I have for my next two presentations are to

outline transitions between research areas and to make sure that I can explain the terms I’m

dealing with in the most simplified way possible. I realized as I was going that students were

looking at me confusedly because they couldn’t understand my complex language.

Third Classroom Presentation Reflection

I had my third classroom presentation with Mrs.Nichols, my current AP United States

Government and Politics teacher, during my normal 4A period class. This, I would consider to be

my “cold” presentation as the teacher knew literally nothing about my topic and I still don’t

know a quarter of the people there. I think I did well on this presentation too. Like both of the

other times, I believe my knowledge in the topic was evident and my visuals were good. I think

that my transitions improved immensely from my second presentation so it’s no longer as

awkward to go from one area to the next. This time, I didn’t feel redundant or that I was talking

too fast. My presentation ended somewhere around 6 minutes which is the shortest time out of all

3 of my speeches. For the next presentation I do, I aim to depend more on my visuals still than

the actual words on the slides. Furthermore, I still want to continue working on explaining my

statements thoroughly so no one could possibly get confused. This last presentation was

definitely the best one I’ve given so far.
