Dear Admissions Committee,

I am honored to be able to write this letter of recommendation for Jim Doe. Although I have only
known Jim a short while as I am new to Conard this academic year, I can assure you that he is a
standout student who would be an excellent candidate for your institution. In the short time that I
have known Jim, I am in awe of the many challenges that he has had to overcome. Furthermore,
Jim is a strong academic student and shows both dedication and commitment through his sports
participation and achievements. Jim is not just a role model student here at Conard, he is also a
role model in all aspects of his life as well.

Jim has proven that he is a strong willed individual, having had to overcome changes and
obstacles over the last few years. One major hurdle that he has been able to navigate through
seamlessly was moving from Brazil to America a mere two years ago. When Jim came here, he
came to a country that was very different than his. He had to learn a new language, learn and
navigate his new community and enroll in two more years of schooling even though he had one
year left in Brazil. Although this sounds like a stressful situation to take on as a teenager, Jim
was able to take it on head first and with grace. Today, Jim is a thriving student who has been
able to integrate into his community and learn the English language at an expedited pace.
Although he has had to overcome major changes and hurdles in a short time, this has not stopped
him from thriving academically.

Jim has proven that he can excel at whatever he puts his mind too, especially his academics.
During his first semester of his senior year, Jim ended on a strong note with all A’s and B’s. It is
important to note that The US News and World Report recently ranked Conard High
School among the top 1% of all high schools in the United States and one of the top
comprehensive public high schools in the State of Connecticut. Jim has shown us that his
academics are incredibly important to him. In my opinion, learning a new language while
attending a rigorous high school and still maintaining A’s and B’s says a lot about Jim’s
character and his drive to succeed.

I think it is clear to see that Jim has both dedication and commitment. He has expressed to me
that from the time he was a young boy, he has always played soccer and has continuously played
throughout his teenage years. Although soccer has always been a large part of his life, when Jim
came to Conard, he decided to dedicate himself to Volleyball. In his role on the team, he
practiced fifteen hours per week and continuously demonstrated superior sportsmanship.
Furthermore, Jim also won an award for maintaining a good GPA while on the volleyball team.
Jim is a star student, one that your institution would be proud to have.

I cannot say enough good things about Jim. From overcoming obstacles and the challenges from
moving from one country to another, to his strong academic standing, to his dedication and
commitment shown through his sports participation and achievement, Jim has shown his
maturity and strength. I believe that Jim will do many great things in his future and look forward
to what they entail.
