Present Continuous (Progressive) Tense (in Progress)

+ Subject + to be + verb –ing- + complement


- Subject + to be + not + verb – ing- + complement
? To be + subject + verb-ing-+ complement

Examples:

+ I am studying English now


- I am not studying English now
? Am I studying English now?

1) We use Present Continuous when we express the acting in progress, in process (right
now): He’s working with his friend now
2) When we speak about a planned action (future): I’m going to the concert next week
3) When we are in the middle of doing something: I’m reading a really interesting book
now
4) If we speak about changes, happening NOW with these verbs: become, start, increase,
change, grow, improve, fall, rise, get: The situation at work is getting better this year1

Example: I am going to the cinema this Friday

Now/right now/at the moment/ this year/this week/today/

Future Simple

1) Is used, when speak about a forecast (prediction) – based on our belief, personal
opinion (I think, I believe, I suppose, I reckon)

Ex: (I think) It will rain soon

2) For promises, requests, agreements, refusals, offers, threats (minaccia):

Ex: Will you open the door?


If you say this to someone – I’ll kill you!

3) If we decided to do something during the conversation (spontaneous decision) :


Ex: I’ll put on my sunglasses.

Examples:

Will you bring me my bag? – Yes, I will. No, I won’t – short answers

Shall I do smth? – Do you want me to do smth?


Ex: Shall I open the window? – Yes, you shall (No, you shan’t)
